News Corp. Not Racist Any More
To make up for employing Sean Delonas, News Corp. is forming a "diversity community council" to rubber-stamp bland statements affirming the company's commitment to non-white individuals, or whatever. Which frees up Sean Delonas to expose NObama as an Arabian terrorist! More » -

Rupert Murdoch: I'm Sorry My Paper Is So Racist

The Joke So Ill-Advised, Sean Delonas Made It Multiple Times
New York Post editorial cartoonist Sean Delonas is known for his distinctive visual style, his keen grasp of current events, and his virulent, hateful homophobia. Seriously, at least once a week he commits a hate crime to paper. So his take on Thomas Beatie, the pregnant transgendered man, is predictably nuanced and clever. See, it's some bearded guy who looks a bit like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad going into labor while a bunch of doctors ask for "suggestions" on how to deliver the baby. Because he's a man! Men don't have babies! Get it? We enjoyed this cartoon even more today than we did when Delonas made the exact same one two months ago: More » -

BREAKING: Monster Murdoch Moves WSJ 'Pepper... And Salt' Cartoon!
The Wall Street Journal has a cartoon called "Pepper... And Salt" which — and I did not know this after 12 years of reading the Journal — has been "edited since 1950 by Charles Preston... [and] is culled from hundreds of submissions each week." Anyway, the 'toon was once in the paper's Arts & Leisure section, and it must have been too controversial (ahem) because it was moved to the editorial page in April 2007. But now Rupert Murdoch is pretty much personally editing the whole Journal, and "Pepper... And Salt" is moving back to Arts & Leisure. Why? Possibly so the right-leaning media mogul can unleash a horrifying "Murdochian brand of editorial cartoon!" Reports the Times : More » -

jann wenner
Say Hello To Jann Wenner's New Friend
Page Six steps up to the plate this morning with some hard—and, no doubt, extensively vetted—gossip. Seems that Jann Wennerhas been stepping out on his long-term life partner and co-father of his young son, Matt Nye. The publisher of Rolling Stone, Us Weekly and Men's Journal - who dumped his wife, Jane, of 28 years for pretty-boy fashion designer Nye in 1995 - has been spotted around town with Neal Boulton, the editor-in-chief of Men's Fitness magazine. Boulton is married, to a woman, with kids.
So much to work with here! First, how much do we love that "married" now needs to be followed up by a specification of spousal gender? Next, it's great that the Post gets a moment in the sun where they sound gay-friendly (which probably explains the lack of a Sean Delonas cartoon today). More » -

'Sun' Takes Brave Stand In Favor Of Obscenity
While many have chosen to disparage the massive bonuses "earned" by Wall Street figures this year, the stout souls at the New York Sun, whose failure to produce a financially viable business model has surely engendered their respect for any sort of fiscal acumen, take a stand for the billionaires. In an editorial yesterday, the paper declared that,News of a good year, performance-wise, at Goldman Sachs and of compensation to match for the firm's employees and executives has set some of our competitors — and no doubt, plenty of other New Yorkers — into singing carols of socialism. The New York Post's Sean Delonas, one of the great humorists in town, drew a cartoon, published in the paper, depicting the Goldman bankers as common criminals, complete with bandit masks. It's something to imagine Rupert Murdoch reading that over his cornflakes in the apartment on Fifth —

Please Stop E-Mailing Us About Sean Delonas And Frog Legs
Thanks to the scores of readers who wrote in to explain that the frog in the Sean Delonas cartoon was, in fact, wheelchair-dependent because the French like to eat frog legs and not, as we supposed, some kind of commentary on the struggle in Iraq that has left so many of our soldiers limbless. We had no clue! A couple of correspondents did note the similarity between Delonas' amphibian amputee and the image from this classic National Lampoon album. There's been a suggestion that this is some kind of rip off, but, given Sean's history, we're just going to call it an homage. Which is, we believe, a French word. More » -

Sean Delonas Considers The Difficult Issues Posed By The Iraq Study Group Report
Rather than go through the usual task of identifying the litany of homophobic elements in today's Sean Delonas cartoon, we're just gonna put the question to you directly: Why is the frog in a wheelchair? Our guess is because he got his limbs blown off in a quagmire of a conflict that his grossly incompetent political leaders mislead his country into supporting, but we're open to alternate suggestions. Sean Delonas Gets Death Threats, Some Of Which May Not Even Come From Art Lovers
Jim Romenesko directs us to a profile of "homophobic and unfunny Post caricaturist" Sean Delonas in the NJ Daily Record. Sean has written a children's book with his son Ryan called Scuttle's Big Wish. "It's about a mouse who wishes everything he touches would turn to cheese," says Ryan, and the paper notes how unexpected the work is, coming as it does from a man "whose hard-hitting editorial cartoons provoke laughter and outrage." (We know.) Delonas seems confused by the controversy his work generates: "I'm really not personally that political. I try to draw cartoons that I think are funny." (We know.) When asked whether young Ryan will follow in his father's footsteps, Delonas demurs: "Ryan 'likes to draw the Titanic sinking.'" More » -

Sean Delonas Mixing Up His Semitic Stereotypes
Okay, we'll ignore the canard that the Democratic wins in Tuesday's election somehow buoy the spirits of terrorists and just focus on the actual, um, "art" in today's Sean Delonas cartoon: the phallic weaponry isn't actually bad (although, as a recurring obsession of Sean's, you'd think he'd be able to draw penises better) but the noses? We're Not Saying That Sean Delonas Ripped Off A Pulitzer Prize-Winning Cartoon, But...
Here's today's Sean Delonas cartoon from the Post. It depicts a beleaguered President Bush (the character with the "W" button on) in the moments before voter anger (the character in the "voting booth") over Iraq (note the "Iraq" map and tank the president is playing with) causes the final domino (the crescent of dominoes) to fall on his presidency. 'Post' Doodler Here, Sincere
Yesterday, in re homophobic and unfunny Post caricaturist Sean Delonas, we asked if anyone had ever seen a pro-gay cartoon scribbled by the alleged friend of friends of Dorothy. As is their wont, Gawker readers responded en masse, providing us with a variety of images that proved Delonas' favorable coverage of homosexualists. We'd have to say that our particular favorite is the image above, since it proves that Sean actually has a firm sense of community and recognizes that attempts by outsiders to interlope would only subject that community to ridicule. Sean, we forgive you: You are truly a beacon of tolerance and understanding.

'Post' Hack To "Get With My Gays, Learn About Sensitivity"

'Post' Draftsman The Picasso Of Prejudice
Post "cartoonist" Sean Delonas raises his game today with the masterpiece you see here. We're not sure which hand-drawn gay stereotype is our favorite: there are so many to choose from! Village People reference? Check! Umbrella drink? Check! Limp wrists? Check! AIDS ribbon? Check! Light loafers? You'd better believe it! He even gets a hamster in there (note the cage behind McGreevey)! Still, even with this cornucopia of homophobia, we're going to have to give the nod to what's going on in the bedroom, where a teddy bear holds what appears to be a big black dildo. You've got to hand it to Sean; he knows it's an accumulation of small details that really brings the bigotry to life. More » -

Now This Is The Kind Of Cartoon We Could See Attacking An Embassy Over
We can't recall the source of this anecdote but it concerns and old college roommate, a regular reader of the comic strip Nancy. When asked why he persisted in that habit the roommate replied, "Because one day it's going to be funny, and I want to be there." In any event, Sean Delonas of the Post: Is there possibly a less-talented cartoonist working today? We had to laugh when we saw this "specially commissioned" work of art in Page Six: the Magazine (making it the first time we've laughed at anything related to Delonas): Who "commissioned" it, the same person Delonas has the incriminating photos of? Honestly, does anyone out there find him amusing at all? E-mail us or respond in the comments; we're genuinely curious.
