    Biden was the most inscrutable choice, ever, for VP. Instead of "change" Obama brought out an old hack, who had trouble with both truth telling, even during the campaign, and with inserting his foot into his mouth. Oh, to know what kind of negotiation that was, to get him on the ticket---except, perhaps to allay terrified old white guys who feared a woman and a (half)black man on the ticket would bring on the apocalypse. #joebiden

    Joe Biden is everything thats wrong and fucked up with congress. This dope won his seat in the Senate when he was 29 and has never had another job until being VP. He has learned about as much about how the country works from his perch in DC as Palin learned about Russia from staring at it. He is walking proof we need term limits.

    Either this new crop of staff writers is utterly fucked, or the editorial direction has taken a nosedive, or both.

    @Motoko Kusanagi: Oh yeah, I didn't mean to quibble. I agree that the site gets fancier all the time, but features seem to break often. I should have added before that it could well be my OS and browser causing headaches most readers don't experience. And in all fairness, I haven't been reading long enough to judge contemporary content against the past. #joebiden

    It is impossible for us to evolve or migrate to second life when we can't even stay calm driving to work.


    Face it, as a human, you're naturally a self-centered fuckwad, dumb, and an asshole. The only reason you think you're smarter/better/nicer (and you're obviously not) is because delusion is the only thing keeping you alive.


    Second life just magnifies this. And it shows sides of humans we don't see in real life like BDSM, furry sex, gay porn, and god knows what else. Second Life allows the normal obese, introverted homo sapien to show his true self. If you're on second life, I hope you get help.

    I know you've visited Linden Lab since then; why are you reporting an outdated Kapor quote that distorts the situation? And what's your source for claiming education is its main market?

    I hear the concurrent user-base has recently and rapidly grown from an average in the high 50K to an average in the low 70's. What say you, Owen? Is this just one of those "because I say so" arguments, or is it because the media aren't paying attention anymore? I don't think Reuters or CNN could thrive there, but deviants with spending cash seem to.


    Of course, I wouldn't put an investment dollar within 100 yards of the place. Even if that money grew it would be coated in furry ejaculate and unusable.

    As an educator, can we NOT encourage the use of that phrase, EVER, please? It's the reason that my students, when they learn that I was in scientific research BEFORE I became a teacher, ask me things like "You know so much stuff! Why don't you have an important job???"


    And to keep this on-topic... who was using Second Life? Really? Because I'd be considered an "early adopter" and I never even bothered to scope it out. Academia seemed to ignore it completely.

    @schmalerie: Is it a variable in the shitty economy because a huge chunk of them only work for nine months a year? Or is it because M-W-F classes got so rough they had to change them to just M-W?


    Oh, it's because they work for institutions that raise tuition on their students at double the rate of inflation and then encourage youngsters to go 60 to 100K in debt to get a social work degree so they can get out and make 28K?


    That said, I loved my high school english teacher, so that absolves the rest of the bums.

    @EmersonErmine: I meant what I said in the sense that our disrespct for teachers is representative of how unimportant we've come to view education, mainly k-12, in this country. This is why China, etc are kicking our asses in the global economy... they've figured out that this shit is vital.


    Uh, and I agree with you that the state of our educational system (esp the institutions part) is fucked, but to blame it on teachers by calling them bums is the wrong way to go, buddy... wow.
