I don't think he is that far off base, really. He did push them in a more progressive, populist direction. They wanted his supporters and if it meant (even in rhetoric) they were willing to go that direction, it at least brought those issues into the discussion.

Hell, had it really been a big deal that he stuck around for so long, his endorsement of Obama would have had a negative effect, but it didn't.

He had already dropped out before the facts came out and if we it weren't for the fact that until the 70s, people simply looked the other way when politicians were engaging in some marital indiscretions.

I think it's unfortunate that someone who does genuine good for the community, poverty, vets, etc.. is destroyed in almost every way for his sleeping around, but people like Newt "also fucked around on his cancer stricken wife" Gingrich, David "diaperman" Vitter, John "generic middle aged guy" Ensign and Rudy "cousin fucker" Giuliani get to go on the TEEVEE and ruin the country day after day after day.

Infidelity and politicians are nothing new, it happens to good and bad pols throughout history.

Edwards and Spitzer should form a third party called the Gigolo Party and run on a ticket together for 2012. I think Spitzer should probably take the President spot on the ticket since he was in charge of a state for a hot-minute.

I'll admit that I did not see his downfall coming, but still... I always thought you had to be an idiot to look at Barack and this guy, and go with this guy (I understood Hillary people, on the account of "she is well connected, has a better shot in general elections" etc.)

I just don't understand you people who voted/were going to vote for John, before the scandal.

Edwards was the only candidate addressing social issues early and often. Most, if not all, of Obama's primary speeches were word salads of generic inspiring rhetoric that worried adults found condescending. Even now, after voting for him and finding he's doing a decent job, "Yes We Can" makes me cringe.

He's right you know. If he didn't throw his hat into the ring, those two would've never put detailed health care proposals together during the election season. He prodded them along on several important issues, forcing them to take positions that they may not have otherwise taken.

@MyNameIsChris: "Failed miserably" because she didn't actually hold a political office and put the fear of the Wrath of the People (due the exposure of the arbitrary and inhumane offerings of the healthcare system) into the entire healthcare industry. She was first.

I believe Obama's push for the electronic medical record is actually an attempt at making all of the greedy hands who have enjoyed blatant overages in billing now accountable.

Edwards was more of a conservadem when he was Kerry's running mate, and borrowing liberally from Dennis Kucinich's platform didn't make the son-of-a-millworker any more palatable or believable. Dennis Kucinich pushed for single payer. it was the other candidates who still bow and scrape to the insurance companies.
