@ModestProposal: I occasionally think Gawker has been nothing but a vast prank pulled on the Internet going public, but then again, I sometimes think everything I do on the Internet myself is a perverse sort of performance art, so that shows what I know. Which isn't much. Except the meds have worn off. #hilaryrowland
He probably made sure he was paid for this interview too. Fucking old bastard. He's responsible for those three kids now? As if their emotional doom is not overdetermined enough.
I remember watching a Jackson family bio pic on ABC when I was a kid and at the time thanking God for not having my dad in my life. Because if he was anything remotely close to Joe Jackson it was clearly not worth having him in my life in the first place.
Oh god. It just occurred to me that a sick and out of it Michael Jackson was a cash liability and having him gone means he's a hot property again. Yuck. Saw the same thing with Elvis. He was a big sweaty thing, forgetting his lyrics declining by the minute. Once he was gone, he took off again.
@jasonelias: Oh, God....you are right. I hadn't thought of that. That evil man has outlived him and will now try to profit off of his death. Keep those children away from him!
The autopsy should reveal that this man turned his son into a castrato at a young age, which explains the "childlike" nature of MJ, the asexuality and, of course, the voice, which is what it was all about in the first place.
Honestly, I heard the rumor of MJ's childhood castration a few years ago, and it still carries loads of explanatory power.
@boozeshaman: Whoa. Interesting theory. That would also explain why Liza Minelli said "all hell is going to break loose when the autopsy results come back." I thought that was sort of a strange thing to say, seeing how a drug overdose isn't the most atypical or controversial way to go out.
Is there any dispute Joe Jackson beat the hell out of his sons? (Why didn't Katherine stop it? Did she know? Was she scared of Joe too? Or was it that she didn't want to split up the family?)
Considering that MJ's kids are going to live with the grandparents, why should Jackson's children be around this man? (Or are the kids just going to Katherine, who, while flawed, did NOT abuse her kids?)
What a sad, wasted, twisted life that angelic-voiced kid ended up having. I don't think Joe ever disputed the abuse either...well, I guess you can give Joe credit for THAT, not laying on bullshit trying to cover up what he did. Maybe not much credit, if he doesn't see it as "abuse" or amiss parenting, something to be ashamed of.
@maude_flanders: Agreed, I'm really worrid about those kids being under Joe's care. He's a monster. People thought MJ was the monster, but I think the details that will emerge will show how protective he was of them (sometimes in his own misguided way, like those crazy masks and veils).
It's telling that MJ's will apparently leaves the children to Katherine, no mention of Joe.
I'm not sure any one of us would know what it feels like to lose a son, much less, a man as troubled and complicated as Michael Jackson. I mean, judge not, right?
@Lazy Susan: I would imagine they have a strange, tortured relationship. Without his push, Michael may never have found comfort in the stage. So, I don't know, it's so fucking sad, losing someone so influential because he had clearly lost control of himself. I have a theory, that the younger you reach fame, the closer you get to the white hot light of the public eye, and the faster it warps you. Michael set the standard for this, although Britney had a similar, if not altogether different, experience later on.
It's just so fucking sad. The fact that he made him do music at such a young age, the fact that he died, and the fact that this.
@Muggs Bigglesworth: I was, of course, being facetious about 'judgement' - probably because I think Joe Jackson is a fully fledged evil prick; a vain, malicious, talentless tyrant who should never be allowed anywhere near children. This has nothing to do with Michael's talent, or the stardom he found early... the Osmond's survived the same brilliant glare - the big difference (as it is with a number of child stars including Britney) is the quality of the parenting they received.
