I tried Bing out on a few searches on medieval studies. It is useless. With Google, the top three search results were exactly what I was looking for, with Bing, there were only four results, all of them completely off-topic. Sometimes I wonder whether David Pogue is playing with a full deck: -- Go write another cameraphone review, Pogue.
But I'm so used to typing a G in my address bar and I don't feel like changing my browser settings. Couldn't they have gone with ging.com? I can't be bothered with spelling out the whole damn thing!
@seyswho: That's the thing...I'm so wired to use Google that I never think to use Bing, ever though I keep meaning to. But Pogue review makes me want to make more of an effort, so I'm putting in my bookmarks.
Ya know, where is the National Organization of Women, when Palin is absolutely getting ripped for every move she makes? Oh yeah, the same place they were when Bill Clinton was harassing all those women...
They've just got to change the name to The Democratic Party National Organization of Women.
@hatchetman: They're probably sore about the whole charging women for rape kits, anti-choice, abstinence-only sex education thing. Silly women. Believing in things.
@hatchetman: OK hatchetman, why is Dr. James Dobson (and other Christian conservatives) endorsing Palin when they've been preaching to women for years that a woman's place is in the home taking care of her kids and not in the workforce?
So she came out and said that governing was too hard and if she had to do it for another year and a half she'd probably just slack off and use taxpayer money to take trips and things like other Republican governors who are lame ducks. Plus, she feels victimized by a media that asks her questions and refuses to take her vague, uninformed answers at face value.
Exactly how is she any different that George W. Bush?
@Mediahohoho: You self-flagellate over harmless typos a lot. I'm going to suggest that you write a comment, leave it open in a tab, then come back to it in 5-10 minutes and check it for typos. Not because I particularly care that they're pristine, but because it worries me how you insult yourself when you find one. No one need take a bath with a toaster because of Gawker.
@Mediahohoho: Umm, he really didn't complain about the media. I'm kind of with you on the Palin thing, but George Bush attempted to govern until then end and at the very least was credited with making the Obama transition smooth. There is no comparison between a President, who you say is almost as bad as Carter* and this weak "governer."
* Attention readers: Mediahohoho never actually said this.
@ChillbearLatrigue: Nah, I really think Bush took the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th minute out of every five off, especially after the 2006 midterms. He really just kind of faded into oblivion there. And he had others do his bitching about the media for him. That's how lazy the guy was. Honestly, I think Bush and Palin are the same born again fool.
"It's the same old double standard. I am not one of those who would whine and cuss. It's just not how I'm wired!!! But the minute I start to whine and cuss, the mainstream media totally misunderstands my verbiage and the combination of things that brought me to this place of knowing. And I know that I know that I know those crappy bloggers will put out more confliction stories."
Only Dowd's version of Palin's inner monologue uses too many complete sentences and stuff.
Considering her lack of qualifications and 'poor me' victimhood, I'd say the media has treated her with undue gentleness and respect. Her harrassment is mostly in her mind - and no worse than any candidate for the world's highest office. Cow.
@sybann: True. She's an example of "The Clarence Thomas Effect." The rich-white-old-man patriarchy choosing the least competent of an under-represented group to reinforce their belief that women, minorities, et.al., don't measure up. BULL.
@Dolomite: my cat is unconventional and occasionally craps outside his box. He'd make a perfect running mate for Palin--he's really cute and has absolutely no concept of how the political machine in this country works. He just does whatever he wants and expects everyone else to follow along.
I don't entirely trust polls, but this is beyond the pale. For me, resigning from her post mid-term kills her in politics. If she left her office because of her family, then I can respect that, but I don't see that as a situation that would be vastly different in 2012 or even 2016.
I voted for McCain in 2008. A shocking revelation for you all I'm sure. However, it certainly wasn't because I was trying to endorse Palin. At that point, she was a relative unknown to me and my vote was cast against the politics of two men with which I was familiar. Thus far, my predictions of Obama-Bider were perfectly accurate. On the other hand, I vastly overestimated Palin. Every time she draws coverage, I become more disappointed with her and her supporters.
@Hockeymom: No, this is actually great, because it pretty much ensures Republican defeat in the next election.
The more she appeals to hardcore Republicans, the more everybody else hates her. The best thing she can do for the country is to continue to court that "base". Republicans in general have managed to turn their base into a fringe group that they can never convert to a majority vote, but she has so masterfully taken it to the complete limit that she could get 100% of the self-professed Republican vote and still lose a general election in a landslide.
What does it say about this franchise (and Orci and Kurtzman) when the original cartoon had characterization, smarter stories, intelligent dialogue, better robot designs and action scenes you could tell what the hell was going on.
Having, um, seen the movie on the Imax last night because of a couple of strings a friend pulled (don't judge me!), I can safely say that it is exactly what I wanted it to be and no less. The robots are neat-looking, there's lots of silly crap about Energon and the Matrix of Leadership and caveman Transformers, Megan Fox is quite attractive, and there are a couple of great moments from Tony-winning jewel Julie White and dear old Shia, who is a pretty good actor no matter what anybody says.
I liked it. It was like an old episode of the cartoons that went on for two and a half hours, and since their brevity was my only complaint about the cartoons to begin with, I was thrilled.
Also, Jetfire is fucking cool. And Frank Welker, the voice of Nibbler, plays Soundwave.

Hopefully, the number of self-identified republicans has shrunk so much that 7 out of 10 doesn't actually mean much.
Otherwise, I fear for our country.
