    I visited Silverlake (Silver Lake?) recently and it disappointed the fuck out of me. Maybe I was in the wrong part, but there were like 2 hipsters and some kind of bohemian old lady stores. Maybe I'm too used to Vancouver, where they frolic in the open. L.A. hipsters seem to be more reclusive.

    @Varnsen: Homo L.A. Hipsterius has been outpriced outta Silver Lake, circa 2005, but the non-LA media may be a wee bit behind the curve. There still are a smattering public places where they congregate (the doggie park by the Silver Lake Reservoir is a goldmine, and so is Intelligentsia Café) but otherwise there's a way higher density of hipster douches and douchettes in Echo Park and Eagle Rock.

    PS: The correct way to spell + pronounce it is "Silver La-KEH," with faux-French accent on last syllable of "lake."

    I have to say that any contemporary artist that has "the eighties" as their subject is likely pandering to their audience's laziest impulses. Fine, fine: the recent past sure seems grotesque and weird and alienating these days--this was adequately established ages ago, THANKS.

    Umm, wow. That article makes me feel extra stabby. Glad to see I'm not the only one.
    As to aerobics? I sure did enjoy watching 'The :20 Minute Workout' as a lad in the early 1980s.

    @yetimike: One of the best rumours I ever read in a book was that some Saudi offered the girls in that show $10,000 for a weekend of sex. The agent thought they'd be horrified. Naive agent. They bargained the Saudi up to $20,000 APIECE and then went.
