Was mostly with you until I saw Eminem is apparently "Alt," and that Oprah combining forces with chicken is apparently more mainstream that Oprah combining forces with Jim Carrey's ex-Playmate girlfriend.

@semiserious: Then again, I guess future hipster boys felt that wacking off to Jenny McCarthy "authentic" than wacking off to Pam Anderson when they were young, because Jenny McCarthy had that weird show on MTV with puppets while their dads got drunk on the recliner and fondled them self through their afterwork pants when Pam was on Baywatch.

At least he spent less money on his "outside development" than Edwards.

I'm sorry, but I just can't forgive Silda for apparently forgiving him. I know stuff like this happens in lots of marriages. In fact, one of the ex-Mrs. Crabtrees forgave me for a similar indiscretion, but at least there was no public humiliation involved. Silda is a charming, intelligent, serious woman, and to abase herself by "standing by her man" is just so wrong for her. Like Elizabeth Edwards, she becomes more of an enabler if not a cohort in her husband's behavior. For a while I figured she was just waiting for her father-in-law to die so she could go for the really big bucks in the divorce, but the money's just not worth it. What are your daughters learning from this, Silda?

@Mama Penguino: A fair shot, I admit. In my defense, though, let me say that my marriage to the first ex-Mrs. Crabtree was a youthful indiscretion -- hers, not mine. I was a relatively unattractive, lonely but moderately charming guy, she was sweet, beautiful, one of my best friends from college -- and a closeted lesbian. We were coming up on our second anniversary when she said she couldn't live the lie any longer. The divorce was amicable, and we remained great friends until her death from cancer a few years ago. In fact, it was the (totally innocent) time I spent with her while she was dying that was the last straw with the second ex-Mrs. Crabtree.

Sorry to overshare, but among the many, many reasons for thinking I'm an asshole, my having two ex-wives is not one of them.

@DaveCrabtree: I really hate those situations where I've been a judgmental bitch dishing out snotty one-liners to people who have suffered honest tragedies. My apologies.

@Mama Penguino: No apologies necessary. If you just called me a jerk without giving a reason, I'd pretty much have to agree with you, but you made the common error of being too specific. And besides, being judgmental and dishing out snotty one-liners is pretty much what thinking people live for, and we've got no business dishing them out if we can't take them.

But it's sweet of you to apologize. Thanks for that.
