First off, to busterbluth, I don't think UCLA is filled with entitled kids. Full disclosure, I am a student there, nontheless, usually that is a snap judgment saved for USC's student body.

I was not planning on going to commencement for reason's other than James Franco was speaking, still I think he was a lousy pick. But I think it was lousier that people put up a facebook page against the poor guy. At lousiest, that he didn't have the balls to either turn down the offer in the first place or show up anyways.

All that being said, I was in a few classes with the guy and he was always very nice to everybody.

I wonder what was the real reason behind the decision to bail last minute. He's been committed to that speech for months - no way he couldn't have worked that pre-production around it. Couldn't take the pressure?

Whatever.... I was a proud Bruin member of the anti-James-Franco-as-commencement-speaker Facebook group that the media made fun of. Looks like we got our wish! He was the reason I decided to go to my modest departmental graduation instead of the longer, more belabored college graduation where he'd be speaking...

Franco passes on lucrative movie deals b/c he actually gives a shit about his education. What a terrible role model for graduates. Enjoy the the real world - I'm sure that superior attitude will work out really well for you.

@LucilleMcGillicuddy: Yeah, I'm being an asshole myself tonight. I think Franco dropping out last minute is crap, but I just never got why anyone cared he was supposed to be there in the first place. They could do a lot worse than Franco & now it's likely that they will.

James Franco just became a personal hero of mine. Way to screw a bunch of kids who didn't want you there anyway. Hey, entitled kids: next time, don't bitch about your commencement speaker with several weeks to go before he or she speaks. They all suck and having a famous one would've been the only thing about it that's worth remembering.

Preproduction? As a thousand future Spielbergs at UCLA's film school can tell you, you don't blow off something important for preproduction.

I'm guessing Franco suddenly figured out that he had nothing to say, and wouldn't be close enough to the graduating coeds just to stand there and look pretty.
