Why can't they put on a production of La Cage aux Folles or The Bird Cage next? Skip's weepy son gets to wear his dress & conservatives & liberals unite - everybody wins!

I'm not a moralist by any means, but I thought my son's pre-school's production of Bad Lieutenant was a poor choice. I will say, however, that little Tyler Steinmetz, as The Lieutenant, totally owned the masturbation scene. So much pain in the eyes.

It sounds like they're doing the play the "Laramie Project"? At least it didn't get cancelled like the Q&A and documentary planned around it.

For the love of God! Skip & Co., go check out that play! If you walk away from that with no new insight into all of this, then you're a psychopath.

My high school only had one pep rally a year for Homecoming. The cheerleaders dressed like the football players and the football players dressed like cheerleaders and they were the only ones that thought it was funny or cute, but we humored them.
The only controversy I remember was that they did not want a girl in the Wildcat mascot costume because they were scared she would get felt up by rowdy kids when the mascot did the traditional crowd surf.
(Which is why I wanted to be the mascot in the first place!)

Ray Childress has a lot of nerve keeping his kids in private school after totally screwing his employees and running his Chevy dealership into the ground.

When I was in high school (mumble 1970) the drill team all wore wigs so their hair was identical. Needless to say they were lily white.

I cannot believe how times have changed...

Back in 1985, my high school in a suburb of Chicago was playing the Trojans for Homecoming. What a fun pep rally that was. Cheerleaders and football players alike, dressed up as pregnant teens chanting "Pop the Trojans." Students, teachers and administrators all had a good laugh together.

Any other Hilltoppers out there that remember that great rally?

@momof3wildkids: What you've described there sounds like the precursor to a massive group rape.

Now, back in glorious 1995 wee Hangnail was asked if he was "some kind of fag" by the Vice Principal because he refused to attend a mandatory pep rally. So, uh, maybe my feelings on these sorts of primitive rituals of rage and exclusion are less than cheerful.

Dress everyone in suits and ties and have them hold up signs saying "I broke the world's economy" and see who thinks it's funny and who doesn't

@Motoko Kusanagi: Maybe not everywhere, but I can tell you that my high school wouldn't allow this now.

What I get from the douchey letter from this Dad is that he is intolerant at anyone who isn't just as lily white, ostensibly heterosexual and boring as he is. The pep rally really wasn't the issue (the skit sounded harmless enough to me given the sketchy details), it was merely the icing on the cake.

As Kincaid is a private school, they are naturally exclusionary. They seek the "best," be it educators, athletes and students. The debate is now beginning there at what 'best' means. Should prove pretty interesting.

    @momof3wildkids: You miss the point.

Everything is awash in controversy at private schools because the parents feel very entitled to meddle, and because administrators run the place like its a multi-billion dollar business in which the parents are the shareholders. Meanwhile, the teachers are generally not at all up to the challenge.

This kind of bigotry and stupidity and big-fish-small-pond tussling is par for the course.
