So there's an absolutely mammoth article about Rudy Giuliani in this week's New Yorker. (Not mammoth like "Oh this Styles section piece is like, OMG, 1200 words long"; more like "It is without end.") We've been trying to avoid reading it all morning, but the bossman keeps throwing things at us and telling us how to do our job and stuff. So, whatever, finally we sat down and read the damn thing.

Rudy Giuliani Even Creepier Than You Thought

Yesterday, the Smoking Gun offered chunks of a "vulnerability study" from Rudy Giuliani's 1993 City Hall campaign that was originally obtained by the Voice's Wayne Barrett. Now, there are plenty of things that have always bothered us about "America's Mayor," but the whole cousin-marrying thing has always been right at the top of the list. We imagine it went down like this. Rudy and his wife Regina Peruggi were sitting around the living room one evening, talking about their day, when Rudy says, "So I got a call from my cousin Frank Bartolini today—" and Regina says, "You mean my cousin Frank Bartolini." Rudy: "I don't think so, he's my Uncle Johnny's oldest kid." Regina: "Johnny Donzetti? My grandma's brother Johnny Donzetti?" Voila, annulment. Giuliani Fans Not Very Different From Their Candidate

In this morning's News, Ben Smith reveals
[t]he top-secret plan for Rudy Giuliani's bid for the White House. The remarkably detailed dossier sets out the budgets, schedules and fund-raising plans that will underpin the former New York mayor's presidential campaign - as well as his aides' worries that personal and political baggage could scuttle his run.
There's nothing actually that shocking about what the document lays out — Republican voters might not be thrilled with Giuliani's "liberal" stance on social issues, his being married three times (two wives apparently being the limit for a G.O.P. nominee), his association with super-criminal Bernard Kerik, etc. — what's more surprising is the fact that it leaked out at all; it makes Giuliani look less competent than Jeanine Pirro.
