    Google Voice will solve a lot of these problems. If you trust them.

    Best plan of action: refuse to admit to owning a smartphone. Make the business cough up for one, and then it's definitely on THEIR accounting.

    Actually the Pre doesn't exist. It's a dumb display with speaker and microphone connected to a laptop PC and wired telephone concealed in the Palm reps clothing. That's why they can't let go of it.

    Iphone is hands on, right now, and once they update with the sideways keyboard it will be pretty much unstoppable.

    I'm not the best guy at making predictions but from what I've seen so far, Palm's Pre will be a flop. I was a long time Palm user (started using Palm with their PDAs in 2000 or so) but I switched to an iPhone when it came out. iPhone 3 does everything that Pre was claiming it will do and does it better. And it also has thousands of apps to go with it.

    If I had few million $$$ in the bank, I'd stat shorting Palm. It will be bloodbath!

    Me thinks the Pre is POS. They're worried that someone who can truly take the phone on a test spin would quickly reveal all it's warts. A no-nothing like Stern is the perfect test subject since he will just ooh and ahh over the shiny object.

    I don't see men buying it. Look at it. It's a chick phone if there ever was one. Just imagine bedazzled.

    @Sandogg: Ummm. Yeah....

    A *nix kernel and Palm's years of experience? Plus Palm OS emulation for 1000's of apps? Multitasking?

    iPhone killer? No. But it will fit neatly somewhere between the iPhone, the Curve/Bold, and the Windows and Android devices - taking a little marketshare from all of them, RIM most of all, I'd think.

    I'll rather see a Pro-spec GPU from them.

    I would like to see if they can beat AMD in graphics like they did with the i7 in the CPU market.

    I'm willing to wager that this thing will flop. Intel just doesn't get consumer products and design. Every one of their consumer efforts has been a gigantic failure. They should stick to what they do best: processors! Any dime they waste on this will mean that they're losing valuable R&D for stuff that actually brings them money. They should produce chips and allow their OEMs to innovate and produce products.

    @Figaro:
    Intel doesn't get consumer products and design?? Who do you think came up with one of the first production MP3 players, mobile laptop, netbook...Intel does not intend to mass produce consumer goods. They provide a concept like they did on the previously mentioned products to lead companies to mass produce. Then they sell the chips to run them.

    @joaquinm: diamond made the first MP3 player (the RIO). Netbook sis a fancy name for something transmeta created back in the late 90s.

    AFAIK, the first laptop per se was the first Powerbook, all the ones before it being merely portable computers.

    @WolfeWadoo: they don't need to do that, just make Android an open OS/standard and most phone brands will have a model based on it.

    After all, the money it's on google's web operations, which the phones could be based on.
