Biden was the most inscrutable choice, ever, for VP. Instead of "change" Obama brought out an old hack, who had trouble with both truth telling, even during the campaign, and with inserting his foot into his mouth. Oh, to know what kind of negotiation that was, to get him on the ticket---except, perhaps to allay terrified old white guys who feared a woman and a (half)black man on the ticket would bring on the apocalypse. #joebiden

apparently I am in the minority, but I love Joe Biden! I think he's like the lovable Steve Urkel of the White House. He comes in, says stupid stuff, knocks shit over, and is like "Did I do that?" Oh Joe. #joebiden

Joe Biden is everything thats wrong and fucked up with congress. This dope won his seat in the Senate when he was 29 and has never had another job until being VP. He has learned about as much about how the country works from his perch in DC as Palin learned about Russia from staring at it. He is walking proof we need term limits.

And he doesn't drink. I don't trust people who don't drink, unless they've already been alcoholics. #joebiden

Why is it that I feel compelled to defend Gawker's subject matter against the editors/writers at least once a day lately?

Either this new crop of staff writers is utterly fucked, or the editorial direction has taken a nosedive, or both.

Is there some negative correlation between the quality of stories and the quality of AJAX/CSS? #joebiden

@Motoko Kusanagi: From where I'm standing, it would appear to be a positive correlation. It's a good day when I get tripped up by fewer than five unresponsive scripts, infinite waits for comments to load or what have you. #joebiden

@Motoko Kusanagi: Oh yeah, I didn't mean to quibble. I agree that the site gets fancier all the time, but features seem to break often. I should have added before that it could well be my OS and browser causing headaches most readers don't experience. And in all fairness, I haven't been reading long enough to judge contemporary content against the past. #joebiden

Not sure what point you're trying to make, Amrita... that you think Cheney's worldview makes some sense? That Cheney was initially popular, before everything he did brought his popularity rating to a low of 28%? I love it that Biden is willing to call a moron a moron. This is a ridiculous post. #joebiden

I'm absolutely NOT a supporter of ANYTHING Dick says... but, Good Lawwd, Biden, Bin Laden will always BE a part of the issue. I'm sorry, I guess if you had the prez saying this I could understand... but, uh, Joe? Nope.

That being said, why are we posting crap from Fox News anyway - I thought we weren't supposed to take this stuff seriously?

You need to start fact checking. This is really getting ridiculous. I've been reading a lot of the other articles. I understand that you're not a news source, but "about" the news, but still, get your facts right.

They didn't date, they just shared a class.

He stalked her. She got a restraining order. He followed her to Massachusetts.

Today, he turned himself, asking a convenience store clerk to call the police when he "saw his face on the front page."

And Drew Petersen was arrested too. Women really do have no idea how much men hate them.

@sassypants: @Goethewritesdrivel: Please. What next? Whining that the FBI is "generalizing" when it says that women kill their partners to get rid of them, while men kill to keep? Maybe complaining that a cop is spewing "nonsense" because he believes the suspect in a violent crime was a male? They're generalizations backed up by reality.

So most men are not accepting of misogynistic bigotry? Most men don't find rape or domestic violence to be a source of amusement? Then why is it almost universally men who commit these crimes, targeting women and girls, at epidemic levels?

I get that you're against technical absolutes, fine, but she (?) was trying to get at a larger issue here: the culture of anti-female hate that men, in general, are strongly complicit in. Yes, women engage in misogyny as well, but men are way more influential in changing the culture that produces these gender crimes en masse. Especially, since it's overwhelmingly men who commit them and men look to other men to model their behavior.

    In reply to Obama's Mailman
My reading is that this was one presidential duty that GWB was pretty good at too -- connecting with ordinary people, maybe on some basic level short of "feeling their pain."

But this one talent of the man was played down by the Administration's agenda-setters -- since it could have given Saddam Hussein ideas, or something.

In a way, this might be the most damning indictment of that eight-year horrorshow: Aside from all the things they got wrong, they didn't even know when they got something right.

I love our new president. LOVE.

Was I the only one, though, who got to this line: "So someone says, 'I'm despondent and I want to commit suicide,' or 'I have a life-threatening illness and I need help here,' " Mr. Kelleher said. "We immediately respond to those." and thought of Gawker's star of the moment? Hope they keep up with Brooklyn grifters ...

People in hotels are cheering in the hallways. Kids were just running across the Brooklyn Bridge cheering for Obama. I heard my neighbors next door and down the hall cheering loudly. This is really quite amazing and I'm happy.

I haven't been this happy since 1980 when I was waaay too young to vote, but the ERA was on the verge of getting on the constitution and " A vote for Anderson was a vote for Reagan". The Clintons were too centrist for me. I also think Barack will be a great president. And quite centrist.
