Actually, gawker, all your attention to this episode, in fact your extreme, detailed attention, only shows this was in fact a rather brilliant SNL.
My point, which I've always held in years of dealing with SNL, is that when a woman hosts, it's FUNNIER--mainly because there are more sketches highlighting the other women on the show.
SNL is a sad ass frat boy club. The women actually rule the show. When a woman hosts, we get to see the real talent. Loved nearly every minute of it. The guys make great supporting characters. #saturdaynightlive
No love for Abby Elliot as Sarah McLachlan during the weekend update? I thought she nailed it- definitely her best since playing Angelina Jolie. I swooned. #saturdaynightlive
All I could keep thinking was "She is only 19!" Listen, I was never in show biz, so don't know how much credit to give her, but to be able to laugh at herself, wear a headbrace, act with people she's just met - as a teen - can I have my teens back so I can try again? #saturdaynightlive
The "Roomies" sketch, with the 2 girls shrieking at each other, was maybe the worst thing I've seen on SNL in 5 years or so....you KNOW people like this? I feel for you. Also, is anyone bothered by the fact that the "Scared Straight" sketches are all just a succession of prison-rape jokes? ('cos to the fratboy SNL writers, anything related to gay sex, esp. forced gay sex, is hysterical). I only caught the last hour or so of this, but except for the "teen in braces" bit and most of the last "Bunny Movie" sketch, this was atrocious. And TS couldn't act, sorry.
@DahlELama: I have no idea if Kel can actually do a decent Obama, but I was hoping he could and that whole mini-controversy would be solved. All would be right in the world. #saturdaynightlive
I think SNL is funny (sometimes), and I also think Venn diagrams are funny (sometimes).
Hey speaking of which - I made a venn diagram that's posted over on Huffingtonpost.com, currrently ranked 6th in the voting. I'd love to get it in the Top 5.
So go over there and look at it, and if you like it, give it a 1o! Click here: [tinyurl.com]

The "firelight" sketch was seriously funny, and not only fun to watch, but the production values were top notch. That's a lot of special effects makeup to be slapping on a group of actors for a :30 blip on a variety show. #saturdaynightlive
The only thing funny about keenan thompson is the smirk he has in every character he does that suggests he thinks he sucks as much as we do. #saturdaynightlive
I've been watching SNL since the beginning and thus far this season, I haven't been particularly impressed with a lot of the writing. It's sort of like they start out fairly strong, then they might hit another couple of high points before petering-out towards the end.
Though what's really bothered me this season has been the blatant reading of cue cards. I realize they've always been there and some casts use them more than others, but it used to be the host whom you could see reading, while this season, it's been the cast that have made me want to scream at the screen.

Oh, and the Kenan "scared straight" thing has been running for at least a season or two and it's generally that long and it almost always involves the guest host.
I felt last night's was kind of mixed because I thought he could've better used Taylor and the movie references were much more recognizable, which may or may not be a good thing.
Those "Standardized Responses for SNL Threads" really should be added to every SNL post because bitching about the the state of SNL and moaning over what years were the glory years of the show gets so bloody tiresome.
It's a hard show to write for week after week. Good sketches are difficult to craft and often have weak endings, which is why SNL has always featured a lot of "talk show" sketches that can just end because "we're out of time".
SNL has gone through legitimately atrocious seasons. This season may have gotten off to a rocky start but it's by no means the worst the show has been. #saturdaynightlive
@dystopika: I'm all in favor of the Rules repostings with every new SNL thread. I also think that brilliant author (ahem) should get royalties for it.
Anyway the braces kid complaining about adult drivers and the Sarah McLachlan bits were pretty good. And Amy! (Although I would've been happier remaining in blissful ignorance about the story. So the SWINEs from GOLDman SACKs got the H1N1 shot? I hope they all also got bad reactions.)
@NorthernLite: Bravo for the Rules. Every other comment cesspool on the godforsaken internet is filled with these tired SNL *criticisms*. It behooves Gawker to preemptively sweep these comments. #saturdaynightlive

That's a big improvement for Keenan from "OMG! Someone from All That is on SNL! Mindfuck!" and then "Oh ...someone from All That is on SNL ...why?"
And yes, I'm the perfect age to remember All That, and yet there hasn't been a single Good Burger reference since he's been on. #saturdaynightlive
