    I have watched the Fairy Tale segments with Pookie the Lion over and over on YouTube.

    He was great.

    He lived in Murray Hill and I would occasionally see him out and about but that was like 10 years ago. I think he didn't go out in the later years. #soupysales

    I am way too young for Soupy, but my father had a best of VHS. He literally forced me to sit down and watch the whole thing.

    Hesitant at first, by the end I was entranced. White Fang and Black Tooth are surely devastated right now. #soupysales

    At about the 2:20 mark there is a version of the clip with the stripper that shows us, via an isolated off-air camera, exactly what Soupy was seeing. Definitely NSFW. #soupysales

    This is ineffably sad for a New York boomer. Soupy was an inextricable part of the warp and woof of our childhood: he was warped, and the woof was supplied by White Fang ("the meanest dog in the world") and Black Tooth ("the sweetest dog in the world"). And he wasn't just about pies. He was about ancient vaudeville and burlesque schtick that was hilarious to kids but that also contained stuff that zoomed at jet speed over our heads and right at our parents. He was about telling us to send him the little pieces of paper in with pictures of Washington and Lincoln from Daddy's wallet and he would send us a postcard from Puerto Rico. He was about his goofy novelty dance hit "The Mouse" and his wonderfully named private detective character Philo Kvetch. When my age was in the single digits, he was about the funniest man on television. Soupy, when you open the pearly gates, I hope there's a stripper waiting for you. #soupysales

    R.I.P. Soupy. I’d pay money to watch this nightly instead of watching Jay Leno chewing up 5 hours per week of primetime airtime.

    We live with better tech and are more "savvy" but somehow all late night talk shows are boring white guys in suits pushing whatever publicists send their way.

    HDTV is just letting us watch the crap clearer. It was more fun when it was blurry. #soupysales
