What fact checking? Saying it was a spec, ad (which it wasn't - it was just fake) isn't checking facts, that's making an educated guess. Updates come after a story has been posted, so, yeah.
@Hamilton Nolan: That's fact checking? I thought that was called, "reading the description"? Fact checking is calling Sprite or their whoever, no? Whatevs.
@funyonjr: It's called "stating correctly that it was a spec ad rather than an official ad produced by Sprite." The only notable thing about it is that all anyone had to do was look at the description. I'll be the first one to admit it's not Pulitzer-level work.
@Hamilton Nolan: Tru. Please consult this highly official definition of spec. http://advertising.about.com/b/2004/07/30/tip-of-the-week-whats-a-spec-ad.htm
@BonMorte: Right. Because the gunman's own physical integrity and health was being compromised by the existence of the doctor, and given that he was only making his choice based on his own valid rights to those things, this was a perfectly legitimate extension of that concept. Except totally not, moron.
@MissNormaDesmond: Holy christ, how did you possibly dredge up a moronically heartfelt answer to a pretty funny stupid statement? Are you drunk? Is your indignation gland inflamed?
Glad Obama said something. From what I've read, Tiller's work in late term abortion had to do mostly with terrible life-threatening deformities, conjoined twins and the like. He was one of the very few doctors in the entire US to meet with anguished couples and help them with their very hard decisions.
And that ignorant bastard Bill O'Reilly practically put out a death warrant on him.
All I know is the best thing is for abortion to be safe, legal, and rare. We cannot go back to the dark ages where desperate women are at the mercy of criminals. Back alley, wire hanger, yes it really happened , it's true. It's very mainstream now to sneer at "Choice" on television, as if the alternative were any better, to understate it. All I know is that women's right's, health, and well being matters to me a lot. We can't go backwards.
@Baroness: Agree with all you say. Re: Going back to women dying in back alleys: unfortunately, that argument will never sway anti-choicers to see the light. Thinks they: "If women are dying in back alleys because they're murdering their babies, well, that's what they deserve."
@Baroness: They arrested my mother in the hospital bed after her wire-hanger, no sterilization, drunk doctor experience. If you have a choice, you don't go into dark alleys.
I (dis)liked the way that the nasty pack of fundies that operates in the area said they, too, were shocked and that they hoped the good Dr. had received the grace "that only Jesus Christ can provide".
Really? Did you have to go and turn that into a sales pitch? What is it with these people?
@bluebears: You know, wishing happiness and religious grace on someone who you regard as having committed very serious spiritual offences is actually a pretty nice statement. It's saying you hope that all people come to a state of redemption, and end up in heaven.
For heavily religious people, it can be a difficult thing to wish happiness on other people. There should be more of that.
@Pope John Peeps II: While I agree with your statement, I can't help but to hear that statement in a very "shame on you now you're going to your judgement where you will be found wanting" voice.

@Krashstar: I guess they felt the need to sell religion since getting shot on one's way into church is kind of negative?
