Confessional poetry isn't hard to sell because it makes people feel uncomfortable. It's hard to sell because it's about 30-40 years out of fashion.

Anne Sexton notably had an incestuous relationship with her daughter I am just putting that out there.

@eleusiswalks: No she didn't. Her daughter spoke of Sexton drunkenly groping her one night, in bed, when Sexton was barely conscious. Which is appalling- but hardly an "incestuous relationship".

"Our friends, Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman, who I understand are very well-regarded film actors, I really wouldn't know, I utterly reject the mass media pablum that's been turning us all into zombies, tell us it's like nothing they've ever seen before."

Yeah, in a world where the government can start an illegal war and your bosom pal Paul Newman denies he was ever mobbed by horny teen girls, truly insane people will never leave your hot, talented children alone.

I like how she thinks it's so terrible that instead of saving an overpriced, replacable watch, he saves the only copy of his first novel.

Yeah, that's just... kind of endearing.

The stabbing thing is disconcerting, though. No more Eminem for you, Mr. Gyllenhaal.
