I can see it all: The Jews will be adorable mice, the Nazis scary cats, the Americans friendly mutts, and the French resistance will be cigarette-smoking frogs in berets and black-and-white striped shirts with neckerchiefs (of course).

At the rish of losing many of my 2D friends, I am outing myself as the only gay female on the planet who was never into her persona or liked her music. Except the song 31 flavors. But I Iiked the version Alanna Davis recorded better.

@minou: More like 1994, and I am hanging out with my College Feminist group singer "Closer to Fine" and discussing the armpit shaving dilemma. OMG lyrics about abortion! Our minds are blown.

Talk about every song sounding the same...they did 14 years ago, can't imagine much has changed.

@hamburgerhotdog: There was a time when Ani DiFranco was totally relevant to my life. I enjoyed having her music around. That time ended right around when I stopped dating guys with dreadlocks. Now she is truly a relic from my past.

If people still relate to her, though, and they don't mind that all her songs sound the same (I didn't!), good for them and for her.

@llamalash: The Ani DiFranco stage of my life has passed. Consequently I think all her songs sound the same, and they don't do much for me anymore. But that is purely subjective. I respect the fact that so many people do find her meaningful, regardless of age or whatever else. I'm just not one of them, and frankly I am glad to be out of that stage -- for my own reasons. This has no bearing on whether or not you are old, or passe. And it doesn't mean I think I am cooler than you.

I was noting that she's very time-specific for me, is all. And that is probably the most sincere you will ever hear me be on this site.

@hamburgerhotdog: I haven't heard her last couple albums, but over the years hasn't she gone from acoustic guitar, to performing with a band, to adding horns (Maceo Parker)and strings? A lot of her songs say the same thing and a few of the earlier ones sound similar, but I've never once thought of her as someone whose sound never evolved.

So Ani is the folk singer girl along the lines of Tori Amos with girl fandom that was a lesbian throughout the 90s and then went straight a couple of years ago. Right?? I hate having my folk girl singers confused. Except for my fave Canadian duo, Marni and Melissa.

I'm hoping she sang Your Next Bold Move, or the last line from Tamburitza Lingua (my personal inspiration quote) and suddenly all the capitalist pigs saw the error of their greedy ways. They left her performance and walked barefoot to grab some torches and hunt down Murdoch. After, she gave a rousing performance of Jukebox (live version w/horns) and they all rocked out together before living happily ever after.

If anyone could do it, it would be her.
