Just saw "comedian" Todd Barry trying to trade his CD for a Metrocard swipe. After about ten minutes and no takers he tried to hop the turnstile but fell. It was sad, LO. 10/24 on 6th Ave and 63rd street subway platform.
It's actually quite sickening how many Subway locations there are within five miles of where I currently sit. IIRC, there are six. The number of McDonald's locations? Two. (Used to be three, until one closed and -- guess what -- a Subway replaced it).
Since my own big handsome ethical cop just strolled through the door after doing a double tour which involved 3 DWIs and a mugger of an 83 year old lady, let's have a bit of Gawker-esque NYPD-bashing, please.
Because when the subway is threatened with blowing up, or actually blows up, Lovely Rita, Meter Maid is precisely the person one wants to handle the situation.
Oh please. If a horrible tearrist attack happens in Manhattan, it affects Kansans, South Carolinians, West Virginians and Arkansans way more than it affects New Yorkers. This is because Satan hates the good people of the Red States! Satan! Now THAT's called having problems. (Satan loves New Yorkers, as is common knowledge.) No matter how bad it gets in New York, it will never come close to the horrifying trauma shattering the small towns in Oklahoma and Kentucky!
@God: I wouldn't worry about it, you insecure twat. They'll always cut you slack. Why don't you just go send a tornado and squash a bible college in Tennessee (again).
I feel like by the time a terrorist plot is posted Gawker, it's probably megapassé in the eyes of the supposed perpetrators. Sucks not to be on the cutting edge of terror, right guys?
I was in London for my first trip overseas in 2005. I missed the bombings, on the Tube that my friend and I rode all around the city, by 1 week. I now have to ride the NYC subway 20 minutes to and from Port Authority every day of the week so I can get to my new job. By bus, it would take me an hour with traffic. An hour to save my life doesn't look so bad right now.
@freckles: As one of the people still living in the city after you left, I regretfully remind you that they followed up the Tube bombs with a bus bomb.
You just have to shrug and get on with it, really.
You DO know what you were talking about. The trouble with ideals like due process and freedom of speech, though, is that sometimes innocent people die for them. You could be next!

Because the smell of old grease and sadness that filters out of McDonald's is sooo much nicer.
