I'd say bump him up to "Pilot class" on whatever flight he's on.

Am I the only one who often reads his name as "Scully" and then I have a X-Files moment where the one episode with the Hokey Pokey song and doll scares the batshit Jesus out of me?!

    Just me?

Okay, fine. Don't indulge my mid 90's fear.

@Spirit Fingers: Oooooooooooh X-Files! I remember an episode where there were worms underneath people's skin - it was so scary and nasty...

@HenryLovesFonzie: The one that started as if it were an episode of "Cops" scared the heck out of me because I wasn't paying enough attention to realize "Cops" was over.

Maybe Denise booked the tickets, and, being the good Boston boy he is, Sully just couldn't say no.

Agree it's probably agreement between the airlines for their staff. Airline folk and their families along with the can do this, it is still a perk, although I think they can be bumped ie for a paying customer especially on another carrier as well as their own.
If there is an upgrade available, so be it, it's nice they bumped him up to first. He's probably turning around a flight out of SF anyway. Maybe he can sleep better.

My aunt's husband, tried to upgrade me on my United flight to LA about 8 years ago. He meant well but really just messed up my reservation --
luckily I made it to LA and my flight out of there to Melbourne. On the way back, I was bumped up to business economy, not so much for having a relative but I sprinted from one LAX terminal to another.

I think my dishelvedness got me the upgrade in the end from the gate agents after the flight back from Sydney.

My dad in semi-retirement worked for Continental briefly aka egg crate airlines. Anytime I tried to book anything through his employee miles/plan just spelled disaster for my reservations, and so I gave up even trying to use them.

@edithdoll: I once got bumped up to Business class on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Madrid, but it was because I was stoned and got to the airport so late that there were no seats left in Tourist. The free champagne and chocolates they offered on boarding really came in handy.

Virgin America is great. Who knew being able to order your 5th vodka on the rocks discreetly through In Flight entertainment would be such a game changer?

@HenryLovesFonzie: Oh yeah. Additionally, you can chat online with others via the same system without uttering a word. VA operates on the interesting premise that even though flying commercially is a public act, there are ways to make it appear more private. Getting people to shut the fuck up in flight is a start.

Having recently flown on Virgin America, I can report that it's good stuff--vastly superior to US Airways. That Sully flat doesn't know how to make a wrong move!

Can't pilots and flight attendants get free flights home on other airlines using some sort of mutual airline agreement coupon? I think it might actually be a union thing.

But still: Where have all the heroes gone?
