Typicaly fascist nonsense from the Plain-Dealer. I heard from a friend that they have the FEMA death camps set up right behind the office.

On a serious note: "at least 50" more buyout layouts?? How many people work there anymore?

I'm not sure the driving factor in accepting the pay cut was commitment to journalism as much as fear of being one of the ones to suffer a 100% pay cut.

In reply to The NYT Cost-Cutting Memos
i don't understand flat percentage salary cuts -- 5% of salary a year is going to hurt some entry level assistant making $20k a year a helluva lot more than 5% of salary a year is going to do to the publisher, and it seems like having a tiered system would save more money. i guess that is the breaks when you make the rules? i dunno.

In reply to Caroline Kennedy Failure Theories Explained
Schumer wanted someone even more reliably neo-conish at his side (anticipating a hope backlash by next election cycle and the need, in his power over principle view, for an upstate conservative) and Patterson, worried about getting support for his own future as an unelected incumbent, obediently complied.

There may be civil war, at least civil unrest, in the NY Democratic Party over this, but the Republicans in Democrat clothing tend to come out on top in such skirmishes (just look at the price Joe Leiberman had to pay for shafting the party... none whatsoever).

Chucky will become a Republican himself before he'll let someone insufficiently pro-Wall Street, pro-Pentagon, and pro-AIPAC stink up his barn.
