    Im not totally thrilled. Sure it's a PR position, but something about this appointment rubs me wrong. Yes he's a brain surgeon. You all are going on about it like Jethro Bodine! Frankly, watching him argue with Michael Moore is a bit much. Sure, MM is a propogandist, but watching celebrity millionaire Gupta ARGUE over Cuba's per person spending being $229 vs $251 is grotesque! I'm glad you think he looks good - you're paying for his vacations and facial peels. As for his Iraq involvement - BFD! So he did some brain surgery there...Gee, I would fucking hope so!! That IS his job you know. Good to see he's PR'd that act. As for past surgeon generals Coop and Elders, the former was amazingly professional - keeping his anti-abortion beliefs to himself while in the position. And Jocelyn Elders was not a "nut". Her comments on sex education were taken out of context in a deliberate attempt to destroy her reputation (and Clinton's - she was a progressive smart woman who was targeted by the Right - it's sad to hear people continue to spew their slander). Ugh... Obama seems to have found his equivalent in medicine. You all better pray he works toward real reform. Time is running out! Obama's personal family history is amazingly subversive, but BOY is he desperately middle-of-the-road. I hope this isn't 4 years of watching him trying to assimilate. I've a fear he'll be strictly status quo all the way. No Health reform. No significant alternative energy plans. Just 4 years of trying to look cool - trying to be a black JFK. I would've preferred a new face for SG.

    What does the Surgeon General really do anyway? Does he lead a small army of scalpel jockeys across the Delaware to fight the Redcoats?


    If so, shouldn't we have a really hot person leading the army? After all he still has his hair.
