Why is it that Teabaggers and whackjobs who greet the President with assault rifles get a pat on the head and intense, friendly mainstream media coverage, while college kids protesting IMF and warn of Wall Street speculation destroying the global economy a couple years before the Financial Apocalypse hit get Tasers and tear gas?
Is it the pleated pants? The pastels? The tucked-in shirts? The spectacle of jiggling folds of male gut-fat? #taser
Why not just skip all this foreplay and just start installing computer chips in people's brains that shock them when they do something unsavory. #taser
@If_I_Had_a_Poodle: Yeah, I was thinking there is something inherently racist or fascist or, uhh, something that just makes my skin crawl about this Taser shit. Maybe it's the perverse pleasure cops and reporters seem to get when they do one of these stories. Whenever you see a "reporter" getting tased (tazed? tasered? whatever) you can just see a sparkle in the eyes of the cop or cop-type who is administering it. #taser
According to the latest Obsession Chez'hohoho, Dr Seuss's Sleep Book, "way out west in the town of Merced" is where the Hinkle Horn Honking Club is located. Which would explain why the cops may be taser-happy.
So, my first thought was that there must be more to the story, like maybe he grabbed at an officer trying to take him into custody and broke his finger or something. Checking out the Merced Start, though, indicates that that isn't the case. I heart cops.

@Spy from the Land of Rainpeople: Just Ironside, starring a post-Perry Mason Raymond Burr. He played Robert Ironside, a San Francisco police commissioner crippled in a shooting who then solved crimes while in a motorized wheelchair. As I recall, the chair sported leopard print upholstery (so gay, Ray!). And now, if you will excuse me, I need to get out more.
@TheBusinessGuy: Thank you again. I somehow remembered this as happening in Chicago. With your help I've found it on IMDB. My only excuse is that (according to IMDB) I was around 1st grade when I saw this.
If you get back in and read this: do you by chance recall similar police series about a reformed car thief who earned a law degree while in prison? Some foreign-sounding last name that I can't recall.
@Spy from the Land of Rainpeople: You're welcome. Sorry about the car thief show--total blank here. The closest thing I can think of is It Takes a Thief with Robert Wagner, who played a cat burglar.
@FrankenPC: dude. ever see tod browning's "freaks"? guy with no arms or legs lights a goddamn cigarette. who's to say this character wouldn't have done same, then somehow flicked the lit smoke in the cops' eyes?
also, "mac and me" shows just how these hell on wheels types can menace a peaceful community:
I wonder how many cops view tasering as a proxy to actually shooting someone with a gun. Most cops will never have to fire their real gun in anger and I wonder how many realize this and get their jollies off at any chance at using a taser.

@ngonzogo: The black guy's name was Marc. And here is an image of Burr in a chair with a control box.
