California is 42.7% white, according to the Census Bureau. Sort of. Rather than providing a "brown" category, the census includes hispanics in the "White persons" category, but then subtract them to get the "White persons not Hispanic" category. In any case, there are more people of minority racial heritages in California than there are "White persons not Hispanic." Also, California is on the verge of bankruptcy. So I wouldn't call it either "rich" or "white."
