By the way, what genius thought it was a good idea to have Mary Louise Parker attempt to play Hedda Gabler?

Talk about miscasting. That's like picking Tom Hanks to play Richard III.

"One of the worst revivals I have ever, ever seen."

I like Brantley's poetic repetition of the adverb. In the same vein, he could have been even more poetic and gone with:

"It is a far, far worse revival that I am reviewing now than I have ever reviewed before."

@MisterHippity: Maybe if Mary Louise flashed her butt the way she did in the print ads for Weeds the reviews would be better.

Michael Jackson in HEDDA! THE MUSICAL would likely be more inspiring than this Roundabout revival, or really Mary-Louise Parker in anything.

But how could Parker's "Gabler" be awful? It has such a brooding poster? That's all anyone will see if it's ever filmed and released to video.

From the poster, this looks like "Wes Anderson's Hedda Gabler." At the end she shoots herself in slow motion while The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset" plays in the background.

I am cautiously excited about this. I think if Jackson is going to disappear into a translucent, open-faced husk of silicone and sequins, then this should be his final Hurrah. I'll probably pay to see it, and I may wear a certain red jacket that's been in my closet for twenty-six years. (I'm totally lying.) No, not really.

@Spirit Fingers: I want to see his last hurrah, too, but I think it should be in Vegas, in lieu of a proper tour. He needs to stop pretending he's an 80 year-old elephant man and get on stage.

This "Thriller" musical will be fun and nostalgic, but it won't seem like "his" show to me. Why should he put his efforts into an impersonator's show anyway? He might as well choreograph a routine for E. Cassanova or one of those other weird hardcore impersonators.

Oh, in the right hands Thriller might not be any worse than say, Mama Mia which, is stunningly still going strong after seven years.
If the millions reaped from nonsense like that allow producers to give us the occasional August:Osage County, I suppose it's a good trade.
People from around the world come to Broadway and they want a big sugary mouthful of American Culture. (read: Michael jackson)

Okay, y'all, I know Mikey is a kid-toucher now and all, but if you Youtubes search the making of Thriller (and you are into the production of things like dance, makeup, ideas, etc), you will be entertained. I did so the other night and do not regret it (also it's the 80s, so they're being ironic without even knowing it).

@Colander: "Making of Thriller" is great. I could probably recite most of it by heart. It's sad to me that we now have to apologize for enjoying MJ's output from the 80s, most of which is flat-out awesome.
