Um. Isn't it possible that Beth Rose Feuerstein sent the same question to both columns, and neither Cohen nor his editors (quite understandably) read Philip Galanes' column?
Also, they both seem to have failed to mention to the questioner that it is a bit, um, CRAZY to call the ER to check on whether your online would-be date is lying.
@VoxPopuli: I agree... I'm more curious about his deeper motives. Does he have some obscure fetish where he can only get off if a random woman thinks he's in the ER?
Another nitpick, Gawker - if you're going to dish the dirt on ethical lapses by the Ethicist, then don't refer to his column as being about Morals! Ethics and Morals are two different things. Two gaffes don't make a right.
Sorry to be nitpicky, but I think you mixed up Cohen's response with Galanes'. Too many advice columnists ruins the ability to point out their dueling lameness.
I'm just mad last week's Magazine printed the wrong answer to the crossword puzzle. They didn't even bother to print it this week. (I know you can find it online, but still, what kind of editing is going on over there?)

You don't think he takes up morality in his column?

My girlfriend and my clients would be less happy if I did that with my computer.

Wouldn't that depend upon what brand of computer you tossed to the floor? There are a few that would well and truly deserve that fate.
That said, to do so in a way that expressed an appropriate level of disgust might be a little challenging. They can be fairly weighty.
