Everything is going exactly to Werner Herzog's plan.

But yeah, The Hurt Locker is incredible. Why can't a woman director win best picture?

Independent my ass! No Best Picture nod for ' I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell"? No Best Screenplay for Tucker Max? No Best Supporting Actress for 'Midget Stripper'? It's as big a scam as Golden Globes! I'm disillusioned to say the least.

My nomination goes to the sequel of the hybrid of three of the movies mentioned here, called "The Hurt Locker of a Seriously Precious Man."

    Something for everyone!

There are 10 Best Picture nominees this year, right? Maybe that wasn't such a great idea.

@hortense: It's payback to Warners for the Batman snub last year. However, they still won't get Harry Potter or The Hangover on the list. It will only benefit Paramount and Star Trek.

Saw Nine a couple of months ago at an early screening. Best picture...not gonna happen. Not even close...

I'm hoping Robert Downey, Jr.'s take on Sherlock Holmes is going to be at least worth a look. Who am I kidding? I'll probably see it twice.

And for chrissakes, people! Go see The Hurt Locker! Think of it as casting a vote for more of the good stuff.

I have high hopes for A Single Man as the surprise nominee/surge winner in at least one Oscar category. It has good early buzz, is based on a widely respected and acclaimed novel, and stars two of modern cinema's very finest. I also imagine that in retrospect a lot of academy members are (one would hope) a bit embarassed about Crash having one, and perhaps would like to undo that.

Aside from Lovely Bones, which is, like a Single Man, completely in the shadows, there is literally nothing else that screams original or ingenious or anything approaching revolutionary amongst these contenders. It's all so... trite. Up was brilliant, but again, it's a cartoon. How deflating.
