I can only imagine the terror he felt when he pulled himself out of the water and realized what a slimy coward he was. And that very soon the rest of the world would know as well.
Could he, at the time, have imagined Ms. Kopecky's Horror, her last moments?
According to the Public Record, the logical answer to that question is, no.
Teddy decided that as soon as he got to a telephone, he should phone up the Family Attorney.. As apposed to Calling the Police and mounting a rescue effort, no matter how unlikely it was that Mary Jo was still alive.
He and his handlers waited four hours before they called the authorities.
So the next time you see Teddy on the T.V. getting showered with accolades, remember that he left his girlfriend behind to drown and saved himself.
And he would do the same thing to you.
