    Better Know a District is always the best part of this show. I loved the Eleanor Holmes Norton ones, when he asked her why she was undressing him with her eyes.

    I watched the Freshman Year series on CNN.com with Congressmen Polis and Chaffetz and they were both pretty funny guys, though I agree with few of Chaffetz's political opinions.

    Funny segment. Teabag jokes never shrivel up.

    Add "one-trick pony" to Colbert's list of sins and I'd say he's damned to an eternity of late night at basic cable.

    @Frecklepup: Bob Hope aired his USO shows too -- they just didn't have the tech to do it instantly, like Colbert.


    Looks like he put on a show that the troops are enjoying. Add that to the Iraq-centric Newsweek he "guest edited" and the constant fundraising for military causes, and your claim what he's just doing this for publicity comes across as rather hollow.

    it's inspiring to watch this. reminds me of how many kids are still over there, and the depth of their commitment to being of service. and kudos to colbert for bringing home to them.

    I'm in Afghanistan, but I've been following the story on the news and online. Everyone I know here has been getting a huge kick out of it. It's nice to see a liberal really do something for the soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and not just talk about it.


    In a week where the murder in Little Rock of PVT William Long by a religious extremist was virtually ignored by the mainstream media in favor of another religious extremist murder, it's nice to remind the American public that there still are two wars going on, and that they're very real to the people living them. Iraq may be winding down, but fatalities in Afghanistan are rising.

    @Adah: Not to pick nits, dude, but liberals have not been lax in supporting troops - from FDR's GI bill that still provides educational benefits, to fixing Walter Reed Hospital. One of the most egregious canards foisted on the American psyche is the idea that conservatives have a lock on the wise administration of US defense. BTW, while Ronald Reagan was serving in the US First Motion Picture unit during WWII, he was an active trade unionist member of the Democratic Party.
