    I really hope the kid's fifteen minutes can go another five for the sake of everyone so invested, but I don't find the fact that he'll be on a show partially-owned by Barbara Walters to promote a Barbara Walters-owned, Barbara Walters Special, all that surprising.

    ETA: ...or maybe it's fascinating?

    Lambert seriously strikes me as attempting to be "spokesperson of the gheighs", when in fact he seems to me to be the least attractive candidate for this position. It seems that he can't decide which way to play his sexuality so that it gets the most publicity. Then when he hears "gay it up a little" from the blogs, he interprets that as "face-hump a dude on a network television awards show and piss off a whole bunch of people". Go away, please, Adam, you're making the rest of us look like fameballing twatwaffles by association.

    @seyswho: Or you could just mumble "Adam who?" every time someone brings him up. That's my approach, having never knowingly heard one of his songs.

    I doubt his shiny star will last very long in any case.

    @seyswho: I don't think he's trying to be a spokesperson for gays. He's trying to become a popular performer who is also gay. And that's precisely why GLAAD isn't mounting a stronger defense. They want him to be more political.

    He's not acting as a group advocate but as a group member. Instead of message points, he wants the freedom to express himself however he wants. Of course, that's the stated goal of gay equality, so in the long-term, he's doing more for gays than GLAAD. But now, he seems politically awkward and embarrassing.

    @FlowChart: Good points, that makes a lot of sense. It just seems like he can't find his sexuality "groove" - like he's trying too hard to be liked by everyone (when that will never happen), and in turn he's creating the exact opposite effect. Of course, really, all of this would probably be a moot point if he could just sing and perform worth a damn.

    @Lysergic Asset: Are all us gays obligated to watch that show now that GLAAD got him on (or whatever they did ... or more likely didn't do)?

    Damn. Guess that means I have to go out and buy a TV now. Being a gay is so hard!

    PS - If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Glambert for that one, even though Hasselbeck did eat nothing but algae and lillypads in Australia for a month a few years ago.

    @Nigerian Business Executive: Ha! As a not gay ("straight but not narrow") woman, I don't know about the gay obligation factor. I think it's a lot of pressure to put on someone so relatively young and emotionally volatile: Adam Lambert, you are hereby anointed the herald of the homos... it's a really delicate balancing act. I hope he pulls it off.

    Also: I could not possibly think any less of Hasselbeck, so I hope he wipes the floor with her and her retro 1950's housewife prejudices.

    p.s. and because AP reporter Derrik J. Lang wrote about Adam's "outrageous" REHEARSAL performance, including the crotch/face plant, you are liars.

    p.p.s. and because you can't compare a pre-taped Ugly Betty and Modern Family with a live music awards show with edgy musicians tripping over themselves to push the envelope, as they have for DECADES (crikey, even Carrie Underwood looked like a brothel madam w/ a pack of singing prostitutes), and you expect and promote this AND specifically promoted Adam's provocative performance before the show to up ratings, you are also hypocrites.

    p.p.p.s. and because you continue to attempt to beat Adam into submission, and until you cease and give him his jobs back, you are also HOMOPHOBIC WEENIES!!!

    Wow, instant superstar. I haven't been very vocal about gay marriage because I figure it's inevitable and will absolutely happen in the near future. For some strange reason, I feel like it's not my issue.

    AIDS was my issue and it nearly killed me--not the virus itself thankfully, but literally fighting for access to new medicines, watching all the best people I knew die, and feeling so horribly guilty because I was spared. Not a day goes bye that I don't cry for the dead.

    Gay marriage seems so light-weight in comparison. My rational mind, of course, knows that that isn't true--it's absolutely vital and Americans are eventually gonna realize it's an irresistible force coming their way, like Gavin said "whether you like it or not!"

    I'm going to watch this clip again and then I'm gonna send this woman money for her re-election.

    @bodegacat: Not to get all soap-boxy, but there have been too many times throughout history when actions that should be axiomatically permitted and rights that should intuitively exist are denied. If interracial marriage is still being challenged in some parts of this country (thank you The South), how fucked is the gay marriage cause.

    When our government restricts the economic liberties of businesses it is the act of fascists, but when it prevents someone from doing what is essentially for humans the next step up from eating and breathing, then it is somehow preserving the American way of life? Up is down and down is up, and once again the world makes a little less sense.

    @Six and a Quarter: I'm not sure I catch your drift, or that you caught mine. I thought it was pretty obvious from those quotes that I find this vote abhorrent and archaic, denying basic human rights, but everything I thought to write seemed trite in comparison. Hence turning to someone like Frederick Douglass.

    @Six and a Quarter: hey, my clumsy ineptitude can beat yours any day of the week. I was tired and irate too, which no doubt contributed to my non-capisce-iness. Our agreement leads me to the one encouraging thing in all this, besides Diane Savino: to see the increasing outrage over these votes as their archaic & cruel nature becomes glaringly obvious to more people.
