My first dog - an English bulldog - was named Tallulah. I can't see than name without remembering bad dog flatulence.

I work at an NGO in DC and all of the interns here got in through connects. I don't think a single one of us went through the full application process.

No, none of us are famous or particularly rich. Sometimes, it's just the way the world works (at least in DC).

That it's just the way the world works is the part that sucks so much.

@amowls: i hate that. as someone who spent days and days on applications and five-page essays and perfect cover pages for internships in dc and ny, and am now unemployed save for a ten hour a week research assistant gig in new orleans, that fucking sucks.

As a 19 year old college student and product of non celebrity parents this really frustrates me and proves that there is really no point in applying for high profile internships even if one is qualified.

This is why I passed on an EA job that paid 21,000 bucks a year and just up and went to law school nine years ago. Because, seriously. Like any of us, absent a famous, rich, and/or powerful family, have a chance in this dying industry.

He looks like a good kid and I wish him well. I'm sure he used his name to get the gig, but I'll let that slide if he's really a hard worker, and never uses "awesome" again as verbiage to be taken seriously.

'kay Theo? Just sayin. No more "awesome" while speaking to grown ups. It makes us believe you to be a stoner goof-off.

Theo was on Topic A with Tina Brown years ago and I remember that Al Granken -- an incredible fucking asshole -- actually ended up attacking Spielberg on his take on Social Security (which he had just mentioned in passing). I think Theo was 17 at the time.

I am a rising senior at Yale University, studying comparative literature. Since as long as I can remember, my main interest has been music

    - playing it, watching it be played, writing about it, thinking about it

    etc.

Haha I've met so many english students just like this. They want to believe they're literary but really they spend all their time latching on to a music scene. Just go play music, okay? Leave books to real bookish people.

I used to work with someone who worked as the Spielbergs' nanny for a summer in the Hamptons. She says they are frighteningly normal and well adjusted kids, and she would've been the first one to say otherwise. Which is probably why we haven't heard a word about them all of these years. The guy's in Yale, has fun hair and glasses, a funky sweater, and a summer job. I say we cut the kid some slack.

@misslinda: Not a huge shock that their kids are normal, though I must say I'm extremely happy to see an adopted kid doing well. That's not an easy road by any stretch, even when your family's mega wealthy.
