Utter plug: If you like this , you'll Love the documentary about The Yes Men, 'The Yes Men Save the World' It's playing in NYC right now, going to Chicago and Boston its absolutely delightful!
The guy from the Chamber really stepped in a bag of flaming dog shit on this one. It's too funny to stop spreading.
The happy comedy accident of business cards as credibility is comical. So many funny moments-
Can I see your business card? I have my business cards outside/this man I can assure you does not have any business cards, and is not legitimate.
How embarrassing for you.
Anyone else want my business card? #theyesmen
They are exposing these fools for what they are--empty suits and straw men hiding behind the legitimacy of a government organization that no longer serves the people who pay for its existence. #theyesmen
I'm quite fond on the WTO Labor Management talk in Finland. If you would like to see the solution for labor management in an era of globalization jump tp 5:55. #theyesmen
This is the next level. I wholeheartedly support more of this.
They can do a Fox presser where they fire Beck and Rush for being crazy racists and turn over a new leaf as "truly fair and balanced" #theyesmen
@ande8502: I'm not a legal expert, though I imagine there is a case here. But it would be sort of ironic to sue for libel when it's the Chamber's embarrassing position that is pushing away their corporate members. Legal proceedings would only make it higher profile. The messier the situation for the chamber, the less inclined corporate boards will be to associate themselves with a group that is slowly being marginalized by the WH, anyhow. #theyesmen
the best and most meta part is how now the real chamber of commerce has to put out a real press release saying, no, we don't support efforts to deal with climate change, we're against dealing with climate change, we are climate change poopyhead deniers
@if_i_only_had_a_heart: as in, dow chemicals had to come out and say, uh, no we really don't accept full responsibility for killing and maiming all those people, not even a little bit
@CaptainFantastic: That critcism befuddles me. They're not going after reality shows after all. When I despair at the condition of the world that's being passed on, the spiciness of the satire rates pretty low.
@dola: There is a Zen environmental koan told by one Tolstoy about an old man in the habit of rowing out into the harbor and holding onto the mooring line of large freighters. Throughout the night this worthy would steady the ship in the harbor. Quite early one morning, a swell rocked his boat and loosened the old man's grip on the line.
@dola: Is it satire if it's not funny? If it's not humorous, only media or environmental wonks are going to end up reading this. Preaching to the choir, etc.
NEW YORK - September 21 - Early this morning, nearly a million New Yorkers were stunned by the appearance of a "special edition" New York Post blaring headlines that their city could face deadly heat waves, extreme flooding, and other lethal effects of global warming within the next few decades. The most alarming thing about it: the news came from an official City report.
To recap, that's *actual* news, the kind that's not covered much by the real NY Post (irony! you're familiar with that.) and not touched by The Onion, which does something sweet & spicey, but competely different.
from farce to reality, in less than thirty minutes:
RBC chief defends bank's oil sands work
Royal Bank of Canada's chief executive officer, Gordon Nixon, faced a tongue lashing by two environmental activists today as he answered questions at an industry conference in Toronto. ...
He defended his bank's "balanced approach" in taking such investment decisions, adding the industry would continue to finance energy, mining and forest product companies.
"Look, when it comes to financing oil and gas companies in Canada, all the Canadian banks and basically all large banks, globally, are active," Nixon said.
"I think it is important for any financial institution to ensure that they get the right balance in terms of their decision making, between what's in the economic interest and what's in the interest of society – whether it is environmental, whether it is health care or anything else.
