"Every night, somewhere on the outlaw side of some town, below some metaphysical 14th Street, out at he hard edges of some consensus about what's real, the continuity is always being sought, claimed, lost, found again, carried on." --TP, (Lotion Nobody's Cool CD 1995)
An book editor friend of mine just got an invitation to an event in September involving a number of New York bands and another mysterious author -- John Twelve Hawks. One of the musicians mentioned is a singer named Brett Smiley who was a star in the UK during the glam days.
Does Hawks know Smiley? Did he write liner notes for his album? Don't know. But it shouldn't be a surprise that weird, reculsive guys hang out with rock bands.
Thomas Pynchon is the subject of more myth than any other writer I care to read. The business with the Inherent Vice trailer has me by my nonexistent balls.
