I unashamedly want this to happen, but will note that MJ is a bit of a tyrant when it comes to money. That Beatles thing is legendary, but really though, what has Landis been doing the last twenty years? I'm thinking he needs this Broadway thing more than Jackson, so he needs to settle this and let it make all those tourist dollars. I'm just sayin...Shrek on Broadway.
Ugh, and I was just coming to terms with the Karate Kid remake starring Will Smith's son and Jackie Chan. WHY must they take every cherished pop culture phenomenon from my youth and irrevocably tarnish it? WHY? Does ANYONE think that a Thriller MUSICAL is a good idea? Is there going to be some original score/lyrics added to supplement the title song or are they just going to play Thriller over and over again?
The only way Landis is going to get his $400K is through valuable Jackson assets like the Elephant Man's remains, sparkly ankle socks, and a precious VHS collection of pre-1994 Macaulay Culkin films.
@leonleonleon: Evil Dead - The Musical was quite fantastic! (Toronto) They didn't have the rights, however, so it never became more than a little local thing. Sigh.

From the poster, this looks like "Wes Anderson's Hedda Gabler." At the end she shoots herself in slow motion while The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset" plays in the background.
I am cautiously excited about this. I think if Jackson is going to disappear into a translucent, open-faced husk of silicone and sequins, then this should be his final Hurrah. I'll probably pay to see it, and I may wear a certain red jacket that's been in my closet for twenty-six years. (I'm totally lying.) No, not really.
@Spirit Fingers: I want to see his last hurrah, too, but I think it should be in Vegas, in lieu of a proper tour. He needs to stop pretending he's an 80 year-old elephant man and get on stage.
This "Thriller" musical will be fun and nostalgic, but it won't seem like "his" show to me. Why should he put his efforts into an impersonator's show anyway? He might as well choreograph a routine for E. Cassanova or one of those other weird hardcore impersonators.

Michael Jackson pulls a dance-powered fatality, then saves, uh, the little kid.

Talk about miscasting. That's like picking Tom Hanks to play Richard III.

I like Brantley's poetic repetition of the adverb. In the same vein, he could have been even more poetic and gone with:
"It is a far, far worse revival that I am reviewing now than I have ever reviewed before."
