Crap title, isn't it?
Like a pushy auntie at the family reunion who has a dress she's saving for a capital E Event.

For the Israeli military industrial complex, there was one lesson they took away after all the civilian massacres in '82--"Waltzing with Bashir" is about one, I'm told: they needed major PR. Particularly where it counts most strategically, in boob-tube America. Now it is a fully-integrated wing of their military operations. And you've got to hand it to them--it's not easy to get away with major expansion of one's territory through illegal military occupation and settlements. They've carved a network of Jewish-only communities and highways right through the dwindling Palestinian territory. And they're, uh, not planning to leave, folks--not any more than the U.S. is planning to leave Iraq. (Rabin, as we know, wasn't going to get in the way of the agenda.) The minds of the American people are just another part of the battle field, as far as the Israeli military and their lunatic right-wing hawkish backers are concerned. All is fair in hate and war, as that other saying (sort of) goes.
But don't take my word for it:

It's pretty poor, poor ass journalism, but it's what's happening.

Hamas and Fatah were about to meet in Egypt. Israel wants to isolate Hamas so on Nov. 4, it went in a killed several Palestinians, claiming that a tunnel was being dug aimed at kidnapping soldiers. The IDF said the tunnel was 250 yards from the border. Gee, if they knew that, how much of a kidnapping threat was the tunnel? 250 yards form the border, and you'd think they could just go "oh, the tunnel is going to emerge here -- let wait and kill the first fucker that come out of it and then we can show that Hamas violated the cease-fire.
Personally, I doubt there was a tunnel and seriously doubt it was any threat if it was there, the IDF knew about it, and the IDF even supposedly knew how far it was form the border.
No, the reason why Israel violated the cease-fire on Nov. 4 was because they didn't want Fatah and Hamas to meet.
In any case, as I said before: Hamas wants Israel to bomb UN hospitals, that's why it sets up near by. And Israel is more than happy to oblige by helping create the next generation of people who will plot to commit terrorist acts in the West.
No, what Israel needs to do is very simple: TWO STATE SOLUTION NOW. Get the fuck out of the West Bank and Arab East Jerusalem. What part of that is so hard to understand, Israel?
The goal here should be to turn Palestinians into overweight cable-teevee watchers and 9-to=5 Middle Class schlubs. Bombing the shit out of them and imposing a huge blockade and starving the population because some of them are terrorists is not doing that. Jesus, I'm so sick of this being The Big World Issue of My Lifetime. I feel lik the Arab-Israeli Conflict is the bickering ethnic family next door that's always throwing shit around and yelling and smacking each other around. Both of you STFU, already!

Israel is not dumb, they have the technology and inteligence to eliminate those missile attacks surgically in days if not hours. Also the weapon smuggling, they've been surveyed it constantly, they could have curb it at any time.
But a surgical or proportional action would not have been enough and would not have achieved anything in terms of impact. Remember, the broader goal of Israel which is the basis of Sionist doctrine is the entire control of the land, including territories lived today by Palestinians. You won't find this in any political statement, or hear it from any politician, but this a goal that is still pursued even today by any government in place in Israel, no matter the talking about two states, peace process, and bullshit.
In order to achieve this goal, the only way to force the Palestinian out is hitting them hard, hurting them physically and installing fear in their blood for generations. Depriving them of a decent living under sanctions and blockades would not be enough, because people still can find happiness even living in a slump.
Therefore, Israel had to attack and destroy, to cause suffering and pain, to install terror among civilians. The only justification for such an immoral action is the ownership over the Holy land given to them by G_d in the Bible.
Attack on Hiroshima that took Japan out of war, bombing of on Dresden which forced Germany to capitulate were such actions. Until the enemy is physically decimated it doesn't quit, and the attacker cannot call it a win.
Israel knows this very well. Deir Yassin massacre after the declaration of Independence of the Jewish State in 1948 was one such tactic, and it worked: it put such a deep fear in Palestinians, driving thousands them to leave their houses and homeland, fleeing to Jordan and Lebanon where they live even now.
Deep fear is always the best way to discourage.Putting fear in Palestinian population for another age or two was a best opportunity now, before Obama administration takes over.
Bullies always end up as heroes, even those who apparently don't have a point.
To me the most ridiculous thing of this show is how all Israeli officials, Israel's defenders or supporters pretend they are the innocent and play the stupid card as them being victims, when all the victimhood is just a pretext.

Also, the greater Israel argument, really? This isn't 1982. That idea went out the window the second Yitzhak Rabin sat down to office. Look, it's nice to blame the worlds ills on a secret superzionist cabal, but those days are long gone. Israel would give back Gaza to the Egyptians in a half second, as well as most of the WB to Jordan. Nobody seems to have an answer for why they gave Gaza back, moved out 9,000 settlers and destroyed settlements while nearly tearing the country apart, etc, if they had the Greater Israel plan. Additionally, there's about 7 million Palestinians in "greater Israel" right now, multiplying at a furious rate, meaning Israel would have to drive or kill off 5 million or so of them to even make the Greater Israel idea remotely possible. You honestly think this is on the agenda?

Do you honestly think Israel continues to build and fortify Jewish-only settlements and highways carved strategically throughout the West Bank only to give them up later?
What? They need the temporary housing?
Any idea how much that stuff costs?
