Everyone Upset About Everyone Else Being Friends

Last night's Hills quadrille was all about cross-pollination. Lauren "LC" Conrad and Stephanie Pratt continued to circle each other, tipping their hats, and going to birthday parties. Well, it was Lauren's birthday party specifically, and she, in resplendent pointy party hat, kindly invited Stephanie and her friend Roxy (throw up all over the place what a dumb name). At the party, Lauren was drunk in the way that my sister gets, all kindness and big declarations. "Seriously, you're a good person," she slurred to Stephanie. Aww. Meanwhile, old Fauna and Merriweather, Audrina and Lo, looked on skeptically. It's always amusing to watch the supporting players on this show start to get cagey about their possible airtime (though, maybe Lo's never really cared all that much). Remember the poor, desperate attempts of Jen Bunny to stay on the show? This series' depiction of daily anxieties and injustices continues. More »

Tokio Hotel Member Upset About Something

Now, our pretend knowledge of German is a bit rusty, but it looks as though Bill, the lead singer of the band Tokio Hotel (made-up of anime characters who, through a wizard's wacky magic, left the television and became real "boys"), is unhappy. He's on the cover of this month's week's German Vanity Fair and seems to have angst about something. Or, wait. I think in autobahn-talk "angst" means "fear." What's he sad/scared about? Maybe it's his hair? His tight pants? His bizarre resemblance to that annoying "'burn this dress' gooood" Yoplait ad girl? The world may never know. Because no one in the world speaks German. Oh, he's also apparently having sex mit groupies. (Wait, like this groupie?) (Click through for larger cover image.)

FBI Foolishly Mistakes Germans For Murderers

Oh dear. It seems the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI" for short), which normally just looks into reports of alien abductions or sends lone rogue agents to kill terrorists, has made a little mistake on a big international operation. The Bureau is on the hunt for James "Whitey" Bulger ("BUHL-jah"), the notorious South Boston mob boss, who is believed to be hiding out in Europe. Last year they'd received a photo, allegedly of Bulger and his girlfriend, taken by an American tourist in Italy. So, they showed it on Aktenzeichen XY, Germany's most popular crime show (well, second only to Tokio Hotel's What Is The No No?), and thousands of people began calling in saying they'd spotted the villainous couple. Tokio Hotel Wow! This is being the cover for Tokio Hotel's super great American States album disc debut. It's sure to be a smash jam. Scream!

Tokio Hotel As Beguiling/Not That Good As Expected

The New York Times review of last night's Tokio Hotel (German sensations, androgynous superheroes) concert managed to make it to the front page of their website. Seems our strange little friends (or are they just mine?) are making a big impact in the only country where music really matters! It also seems that critic Kelefa Sanneh, while maybe not loving the show as a whole, got sucked in by the strange magnetism that lead singer Bill Kaulitz seems to exude: "If this concert was oddly delightful from start to finish, thank Bill Kaulitz, who should, with any luck, be thrilling and perplexing young Americans for the rest of the year." Delightful indeed! [NYT] After the jump, ANOTHER video in case you're not yet convinced. More »

It's Officially Tokio Hotel Day on Gawker

OMG, lucky New York Post reporter Danica Lo got to talk to German band (and newest object of my hatred/morbid obsession) Tokio Hotel today. The musical rock and roll group, which is über-popular already in Europe, is doing a small US tour, hoping to raise their profile over here. Though, judging from the crowd outside the Fillmore East, I'm not sure they need it. Be-makeup-ed and rhinestoned teenage girls abound. Rearrange a few decades here and there, and all of them could be me. Or YOU. Sob. Here's the interview. Their "Ready, Set, Go" video is after the jump. More »

Dream Bands My latest bizarre fascination/sign of end times, German band Tokio Hotel, is in New York City, RIGHT. NOW. They played a show at the Fillmore East last night, and will play another tonight. If you're curious to meet old LolCait, I'll probably be waiting outside the stage door in baggy raver pants, holding a Hello Kitty lunchbox. Like the teenagers are doing now. Oh, and I'll probably have a gun, too. [TONY]

The Party Picks

We did things a little differently this week. Your nominations were all deserving, but sadly I had to winnow it down to six. I hope you'll enjoy them and know, if you didn't win, that you're still wonderful and valid. Just not quite as wonderful and valid as the winners. Once you're done reading these, please go back and click on that Tokio Hotel picture. I'm trying to get them household name status here in the States. More »
