    I won't get to see the finale until next week, but I signed on this morning with the expectation that I'd be spoiled. It's okay - I was raised on "Columbo," where you saw the killer in the opening scenes of each episode and were still glued to the screen to find out "how's he going to catch him?" instead of the classic "whodunnit?" So, yeah, "how does this play out?" is still interesting. Nobody watching this couldn't see that a brother-to-brother showdown was telegraphed by the editors from episode one.

    @nowmedusa: Kevin was the clear favorite based on track record. He won more elimination challenges (5), and more total challenges (8) than all the other chefs.

    Nobody came close to his total of 8 challenge wins (quickfire + elimination). The next-closest was Michael, with 5.

    So the mere fact that Kevin didn't win was a huge upset, and major shock to me when I learned about it just before the show started (not from this post, though).

    i can't take it anymore--for those of you bitchin about a spoiler--don't read the internet the day of, fools. is it really that hard to stay away from facebook, twitter, or gawker for a few hours? get a fucking life.

    @SudiptaKepla: That rule applies *after* the show is over, I agree.

    However, I think the folks in this thread were unhappy because this appeared five hours before the show started. Nobody usually expects such spoilage before the show starts.

    Oh c'mon, it's a TV show for chrissakes. It had to be one of the Golden Boys.

    Why not get rankled over the fact that according to Top Chef, the American culinary scene is lily-ass white? Call me when a Mexican, East Indian, African American etc. wins - or at least - makes it to the finale. Yes, I know Hung won in season 3, so I expect there won't be another competent "minority" (god I hate that word) for a looong time.

    How about Middle Easterners? Can't they cook? Or gays or the physically challenged or muppets? What about the frickin muppets??

    Middle America, you win again..

    Watch "Chopped". Much better show although the production values are in the crapper. And "Top Chef Masters" looks like it's going to kick. ass.

    @missdelite: I was a big fan of the latest season of Next Food Network Star, in which Jeffrey Saad--a Lebanese-American--scored the runner-up spot. The runner-up on Bravo's Next Iron Chef show was Indian-born pastry chef Jehangir Mehta and the winner was Ecuadorian-born José Garcés.

    Ergo, the American culinary scene is far from "lily-ass" blanco. White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford is Filipina, and Marcus Samuelsson--one of the most influential NYC chefs, who also recently cooked at the White House--is Ethiopian-by-way-of-Sweden. Etc. etc. etc.

    @snugbug: Oh, I know the haute cuisine scene is more diverse, but "Top Chef" falls short on that score. Maybe cause they all have to live together? I dunno..

    @missdelite: Rankle away -- it's well deserved. But note that Carla Hall was a finalist last year (Hootie-hoo!). Still, this year's non-white contestants were clearly on the way out from Day One, which you would think the producers could see coming.

    And Chopped? Yes! Really like that show, where Aaron Sanchez is a regular judge. They actually do some cooking there!
