Not quite the style from my old workplace from long ago. General Cable Corpse hung a sign in the toilet about "latrine poets," one of whom, it was stated, "has seen fit to terminate his employment."

Let this be a warning ... except, I knew the guy, and he left because the job sucked, not because he'd been found out writing on the stall wall, of which there was absolutely no evidence.

Class. Then someone in another plant was killed in a horrible strander operation, and the Corpse went to great lengths to detail his stupidity in causing his own demise.

    Is the name now Renewsweek?

newsweek is hard to mourn, it's been so useless for so long, but it's a shame about the jobs and the manner in which it was handled

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd prefer to just get my stuff thrown out of my office than face virtually humiliation.

    Good luck to the 6.

What an insulting cockpunch, needlessly adding insult to injury.

Then again, Newsweek has been insulting and injuring innocent minds since it started as a right-wing Beltway rag, now dumbed down into listicles for mouth-breathers with short attention spans.

@Baroness: I actually need to amend that comment. Newsweek published Rick Perlstein's wonderful evisceration of Palin's martyr complex recently. But the history of the magazine still stands- conservative dreck for the masses, for decades.

@Baroness: Whereas its closest rival proved the standard in journalism today, which is craven patronage of any topical subject, even if it's only a dingbat from Nome. Time allowed the twit to trot out her homespun homilies without challenge or serious review in a cover story featuring her only good feature, pages and pages of 8 x 10 grinning glossies. Sickening. And remember it was not Renewsweek which allowed that scary Coultergeist to nominate Simple Sarah as one of their Top 100.

The byline for any other renews weekly should be "At least we ain't Time!"

Even before the unfortunately named Tom Ascheim got to the insulting eulogies, he gave an inadvertent hint about what he really thought of his discharged colleagues: he ungrammatically referred to them as "that" not "who"--

"The mixed part is that in welcoming the new we have to say good-bye to folks that have served Newsweek devotedly."

I hope he gets reborn as a mosquito.

That giant kiss-off paragraph is depressing. If I'm ever fired en masse like this, all I ask for is a pair of hard returns surrounding my (and each of the others') send-off sentence.

My God, this is brutal. If you didn't read it carefully, it would sound as though the fired employees were being spun off into their own sitcom.

'Renewal' sounds like downsizing re-branded for these transformational times.
