Last month, the Murdoch-owned Post's Page Six accused the broadcaster of valuing ketchup more than the memory of the newly dead Tim Russert. Earlier this week, Page Six ran a particularly provocative item accusing Olbermann of being, uh, too nice to the departed Tony Snow. And last night, Olbermann had his revenge for that; he was forced to call Page Six "sick, sick people" and big liars for all their lying lies. Click to watch his righteous thunder. We report and you decide, ha ha!

<![CDATA[Bill O'Reilly, Arianna Huffington Brought Together By Death]]> Nonpartisan journalist Bill O'Reilly is a man who calls em how he sees em, and that means that he's not afraid to give credit to the liberal lie-mongering site HuffPo when credit is due. When former Bush flack Tony Snow died last weekend, the AP ran an obit that was not 100% positive. Even worse, "The LA Times website allowed loons to post vile things about Tony Snow." O'Reilly condemns these examples of factual reporting and free speech, respectively; but he actually praises foreign-born socialist Arianna Huffington for scrubbing her site of all Snow smears. Truly a bipartisan lovefest! Watch the clip of what happens when you look up "Fairness" in the dictionary, below:

<![CDATA[Tony Snow, Former Bush Press Secretary]]> Conservative talking head and former George W. Bush press secretary Tony Snow died of colon cancer today. He was 53. After a decade at Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, Snow served 17 months in the Bush administration, from May 2006 through September 2007. "Although a star in conservative politics, as a commentator he had not always been on the president's side. He once called Bush 'something of an embarrassment' in conservative circles and criticized what he called Bush's 'lackluster' domestic policy."

"Most of Snow's career in journalism involved expressing his conservative views. After earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Davidson College in North Carolina in 1977 and studying economics and philosophy at the University of Chicago, he wrote editorials for The Greensboro (N.C.) Record, and The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk.

"He was the editorial page editor of The Newport News (Va.) Daily Press and deputy editorial page editor of The Detroit News before moving to Washington in 1987 to become editorial page editor of The Washington Times.

"Snow left journalism in 1991 to join the administration of the first President Bush as director of speechwriting and deputy assistant to the president for media affairs. He then rejoined the news media to write nationally syndicated columns for The Detroit News and USA Today during much of the Clinton administration.

"Roger Ailes, chairman of Fox News, called Snow a 'renaissance man.'

"Robert Anthony Snow was born June 1, 1955, in Berea, Ky., and spent his childhood in the Cincinnati area. Survivors include his wife, Jill Ellen Walker, whom he married in 1987, and three children." [AP]

<![CDATA[Gawker Commenters Made Greg Gutfeld, Hercules Cry]]> So we wrote about former White House press secretary Tony Snow's poor health the other day. And some commenters said some dickish things. That upset staunch defender of morality, public decency, and polite discourse Greg Gutfeld, who hosts a show on Fox News at 3 a.m.. So instead of his usual "aren't gay people so gay" commentary, he used his "Greg-alogue" to attack "Gawker's faceless commenters who take ghoulish glee in Snow's health." Greg Gutfeld, you see, would really like us to write about him, again, and he'd like you guys to comment on it, so that he can talk about it again so we run another clip and so forth until the plague comes. (It's the only way for him to create a false sense of power and achievement that's missing in his marginal life.) Then they ask Kevin Sorbo if he ever goes online to see what people write about him. Has anyone ever written anything about Kevin Sorbo on the internet? Until now? Maybe there was a particularly cruel Prodigy bulletin board post about him in 1996 or something, but he sure seems angry.

<![CDATA[Tony Snow's Struggle For A Normal Life]]> This is sad: Tony Snow, the former White House spokesman and newly-hired CNN talking head, was taken to the hospital this morning and canceled a speech at Eastern Washington University as well as an appearance on CNN. Snow has been battling cancer since a 2005 and left his White House job in 2007, saying he needed to earn more money. His cancer, he said, was not behind his departure, and in fact was in remission. Just this Monday, Snow said on a radio show that "the stuff I have right now is not all that rough" and that a recent CAT scan showed his tumors weren't growing. Snow is maintaining an optimistic outlook, and trying to live a normal life. But, for the moment at least, he can't. Whatever one thinks of Snow's work on behalf of the Bush administration, he is a human being, with a very human desire to keep working, earn some money for his family and focus on the life still before him, rather than spend time contemplating some of the darker questions somewhere down the road. <![CDATA[Tony Snow And Waverly Inn Chef Will Explain Magazines]]> Former White House spokesbot Tony Snow will be the keynote speaker at the American Magazine Conference in Boca Raton, Florida at the end of the month. Men's Health editor David Zinczenko, the AMC 2007 chairman, is super jazzed about it. But should he be? Former keynote speakers included former President Bill Clinton, former future presidents Barack Obama and John McCain. Tony Snow was a regular guest host for the Rush Limbaugh Show and frontman for the band "Beats Workin'." He did, as Zinczenko made sure to mention, survive the cancer that God so unjustly gave him. Who else is speaking in Boca, and why?

This year's subject is Magabrands! What is a Magabrands!? Zinczenko's letter to the troops explains:

It's a magazine that's found a way to extend the power of its brand beyond the printed periodical—into realms like "old" media (books, newsstand specials, television, radio); "new" media (podcasts, webcasts, cellcasts, e-newsletters); even non-media (nightclubs, restaurants, tour operations, fashion lines, retail products, conventions, big-cause crusades, hotels and casinos).
OMG, What will the Domino Crusade Against Clutter and Muslims look like? And the Prevention Hotel and Casino? I can not wait.

A list of speakers include New York editor Adam Moss; Times guy David Carr, sure to be the most engaging speaker of the lot; John DeLucie, partner and chef of the Waverly Inn (THAT IS ODD); plastic chef Rocco DiSpirito; and Dan Rather. Also, editor and publisher of the Nation Katrina Vanden Heuvel, whose headshot is really an object lesson in how not to use the brightness/contrast tool in Photoshop. <![CDATA[My Bad, Darfur]]> Each year (or really, every 11 months and two weeks or so, kinda), the Jews observe Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, during which leather shoes and doing it are totally forbidden. Then there are many apologies. Let it begin with us! Herewith, Balk makes amends to some of the people he's hurt so horribly this year.

I'm not a big one for apologies, but the faith of my mothers insists that I atone, so atone I will. I've wronged some folks over the last year. Sorry 'bout that.

  • The people of Darfur. I guess there's something bad happening to you right now? Something I should be upset about enough to write my congressman or send money to someone? See, the thing is, I want to care about this, I really do, but the summer was totally hectic, and now with this new fall season... between "Gossip Girl" and "The Hills" alone I barely have enough room in my schedule for "me time," which I think you'll agree is the most important time of all. Tell you what, Darfur: If, come Christmas, you're still having trouble with whatever it is that's bothering you, drop me a line and I promise to at least read up on it. Actually, December's crazy for me, I turn 35, and then, you know there are the holidays. Maybe January. Some time after New Year's, but before the King holiday, which is when I do my annual spa retreat. But seriously, Darfur, I'm sorry. Please keep in touch.
  • Tony Snow. I think you might have accidentally caught the cancer I've been wishing on George W. Bush for the last seven years. My bad.
  • Band of Horses. I admit it, I downloaded your new record Cease to Begin. I promise to pay full price for it when it's released in stores, even if it does feel a little thin compared to the last one, which was AMAZING. I'm sorry; I'm going to listen to it over and over until I learn to love it.
  • Everyone in the office. You're going to be hearing a lot of the new Band of Horses in the near future. Be patient, it's a good record! I think!
  • Doree Shafrir. Choire just told me that my constant sexual harassment and my habit of referring to you as "toots," "sweetie," or "the other girl," were big factors in you leaving Gawker. That is so not what I wanted. Sorry, babe.
  • My Cock. I know I haven't put you on the site lately. Please don't start giving your material to anyone else, I'll try to get something by you up soon.
  • Choire. I know you hate the posts by My Cock, but, uh, expect some soon.
  • The Jews. When I'm tucking into my mouthwatering crackling pork shank at Maloney and Porcelli during lunch tomorrow, I promise to at least spare a thought for you guys. You'll probably be starving.

<![CDATA[Cranky White House spokesbot Tony Snow just...]]> Cranky White House spokesbot Tony Snow just finally quit his job. It already gave him cancer, so maybe he can't tolerate any more evil. Actually, he says that since he only makes $168,000 a year, he's leaving the job because he needs to make more money. Heh. [CNN]
