Dude was born before Nabokov, Borges, Hemingway, Beckett, and Faulkner -- all men who led long lives but who nevertheless seem to belong to an age well past. Yet Mr. Allingham would have been their most senior contemporary. Amazing to ponder.
@skahammer: That got me to thinking: the dude's lived in three centuries. Three. Fucking. Centuries. How many people can say that?
(Of course by the same math everyone here can say that we've lived in two centuries, but that just sounds like pointless self-aggrandizement, whereas it actually means something when applied to this guy.)
@skahammer: Good references. I was trying to come up with some of my own, but I like your list. It would be something that if I were in this man's family I would want to read.
Some scientists now say we are "meant" to live around 150 years, we're just too good at shaving off the years by doing - well, doing what depends on who you talk to.
@anyonecanwhistle: But how many of these scientists themselves have lived to 150? Seems that doing things to shorten our lives is just part of how we're wired, even for scientists.

Sexy librarians: So alluring, yet so complicated. Truly my greatest weakness.
