    The Prius I drove recently didn't accelerate suddenly, but never, ever drive that thing in a pounding rainstorm. I have seriously never driven a car that handled worse in severe weather. It's too light to grip the road, it skids every time you go into a turn. Absolutely terrifying. #toyota

    I'm slightly disappointed they didn't take aim for the nearest SUV, just to make the Big Gulp crowd think Eco-minded people had all of a sudden went Kamikaze after too many years of mildly-arched-eyebrowed disapproval.

    @mommy_dearest: Manual as in standard, as in the transmission.

    Throwing an automatic in neutral would probably do the same thing, but it's hard when you're panicking #toyota

    @Cecil's Wielder: It's all electronic, you couldn't put that thing in neutral if you wanted.

    Also, I had the brakes go out once in a manual I used to own. Scary yes, but I just downshifted to where I could put the emergency brake on. Oh, and if you were low on gas (and money), you could just put the car in neutral on big downhills. #toyota

    I actually had this happen on my car once (not a Toyota) and it was a pulse generator problem- the chip that tells the automatic transmission how fast the engine is turning burned out. Result: Car revving ITSELF up at a stop sign. UTTERLY TERRIFYING to sit there with your brake pedal on the floor while the car winds itself up like it's ready to drag... #toyota

    When the unintended-acceleration issue hit Audi about 30 years ago, wasn't it determined (much later, unfortunately for Audi) that the problem was driver error? Maybe this needs to be cross-posted to Jalopnik. #toyota
