@wertherian: It's not a question of whether it's OK or not, it's a question of whether the FOIA compels the Secret Service to turn over the records. And it does.
Isn't it worse than nothing? Media outlets with wide range and no depth of analysis are hailing this as some bold step forward. There is a damaging perception that this is the fulfillment of Obama's campaign promise instead of an acknowledgement of his failure to comply.
@Rhymenocerous: Is it better than a Supreme Court decision saying that the records don't have to be released under FOIA? Such a decision is a reasonable possibility.
@jimstoic: I believe the point is that the courts shouldn't have to be involved at all, given Obama's promises of transparency. And this, although it is a step, is not true transparency but is being represented that way.
@Unsolicited Advice: AND he did it only threat of legal action; and he reserves the right to redact, and it's not retroactive but starts September 15.
Mr. Obama, your pants are on fire.
The man has a bit of a temper. My friend got into a shouting match with him on an airplane - she tried to move his overheard compartment baggage in order to fit hers, and he started shouting that he was being "singled out" and violated and that there was *no reason* why she should have to touch his bag.
Also, there is something very very strange about that photo above Maybe he just looks remarkably waxen?

Am I the only one who noticed that this does not create the acronym "CREW"?

Right. This is another famous Obama rope-a-dope media strategy, only this time the media is the victim. And, by extension, Americans.

He reminds me of Tim Daly when he played Dan White in HBO's Harvey Milk movie.
