    Meh, good for him. I always thought Reznor was so angry in his music because he was venting his bottled-up emotions.

    Being surrounded by people who are absorbing the anger and bouncing it right back at you sounds exhausting.

    It was difficult for me to follow Trent, especially after "Pretty Hate Machine". I'd listen to his songs and think, "Trent, honey, why the anger? You can pay people to be angry for you now. Have a Bosco & milk, relax already."

    I hesitate to give Reznor or even Radiohead much credit for pioneering internet music distribution. DJ Rupture explains it pretty well in his post from when OiNK died. http://www.negrophonic.com/2007/defending-the-pig-oink-croaks/

    Also, quitting potentially bad things hasn't worked out for Reznor. I mean, the second he gave up heroin his music sucked.

    @Mount_Prion: Agreed on the first point. Even Harvey Danger beat both of them by at least a year with their free online album.

    That being said, I totally disagree with you on #2. YZ in particular is one of my favorite albums in recent memory. YMMV
