How I Learned To Stop Thinking and Love the Media

Not the GREATEST war movie ever made or anything, but there's at least one amazing tracking shot of Kirk Douglas's character walking through a WWI trench that is spine-tinglingly good.
WWI imagery is easily the creepiest of any cinematic war.

Corporal Paris: See that cockroach? Tomorrow morning, we'll be dead and it'll be alive. It'll have more contact with my wife and child than I will. I'll be nothing, and it'll be alive.
[Ferol smashes the roach]
Private Ferol: Now you got the edge on him.
Maybe not the greatest war movie but in the top 5.

Well spoken, and can kill you 10 ways before breakfast.

I too prefer the nineteen-forties, but only for the lack of the celebrity idiots.

Listen, buddy, certain countries have tried the "media not reporting what the army's really doing" before. It was the German media, circa 1939 - 1945, and it really didn't turn out so well.
What an ignorant, un-American, criminally stupid douche nozzle. Someone needs to take a big shit in his mouth and clean that sinkhole of ignorance the fuck out.

Transcript from KOS: "I'll be honest with you. I don't think journalists should be anywhere allowed war. I mean, you guys report where our troops are at. You report what's happening day to day. You make a big deal out of it. I-I think it's asinine. You know, I liked back in World War I and World War II when you'd go to the theater and you'd see your troops on, you know, the screen and everyone would be real excited and happy for'em. Now everyone's got an opinion and wants to downer-and down soldiers. You know, American soldiers or Israeli soldiers. I think media should be abolished from, uh, you know, reporting. You know, war is hell. And if you're gonna sit there and say, 'Well look at this atrocity,' well you don't know the whole story behind it half the time, so I think the media should have no business in it."

You mean back when people supported their government, and the government, in turn, picked its wars more carefully? Is that what you mean, Joe?
OK, WWI was a tad iffy, but we won't go into that.
Now everyone's got an opinion and wants to downer-and down soldiers.
Hello, Joe? It's me, Kettle. You're black, Joe. Pitch black.
