That said, I would concur with the vocal criticisms of Adam Lambert's performance because he can do better than that, but if he hadn't kissed a dude, I would have been thinking "Damnit, what a sellout." I wanted him to kiss a dude, I wanted him to shove someone's face into his crotch, and I got what I wished for. Except for the shrieking. I was not wishing for that.

But I certainly have things against really bad signing and crappy dancing. Adam might be this classically trained singer, but I just don't see what people like about him. Every time I have heard him sing my ears have bled.
One of my biggest issues is he is always just slightly out of tune. Like ALWAYS. Not blatantly, he is on key (though he was NOT on key for this performance) , just out of tune to it slightly. His intonation seems to be always off when he sings live.
I guess its hard to explain unless you have musical training.

They could have all the training and be perfect technically, but if its just slightly off tonally it drives me up the wall.
Its why I have issues seeing a lot of acts I like live.

Additionally: I clicked thru, and I didn't see anything in the quotes from the PTC spokesperson complaining about the performance being "gay." They were complaining about it being sexual, and violent. It's very possible for a parent to be totally cool with Adam Lambert and pro same-sex relationships, but anti violent, unexpected face-fucking.
I hate to find myself on the same side of the PTC, but they've got a perfectly valid point.

But as to the PTC not complaining about it? They didn't even wait for it to air
[www.parentstv.org]
They proactively bashed it. Trust me the PTC might hate gays, but they hate ANY sexuality on TV of any kind.

You have absolutely no right not to be offended. I'm sorry, but if you even suspect for one second that something your kids are going to watch (and by the way this was aired after your fucking kids should have been in bed) then don't let them watch it unless you're okay with it. The jackapples at PTC don't let their kids watch anything beyond VeggieTales anyway--they just bitch to bitch and hopefully turn NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX into hardcore Christian channels.
There's no validity to their complaint.

That being said...what DOES offend me is your trite, played-out argument about how TV (society) accepts violence but is prudish about sex. No kidding. If you can't elevate the discussion beyond that, just keep quiet.
11/24/09
Maybe my argument wouldn't be played out if people stopped acting like sex was such a big fucking deal. He put his crotch in someone's face. My god. I actually don't give a good goddamn about sex OR violence. But I'm pointing out how hypocritical it is to be against one and not both, since they both have a perceived (but not studied, interestingly) effect on child development.
Instead of replying to my post, perhaps you should lobby some governing body to have me banned as a commenter instead of allowing freedom of expression. Fuck your puritan bullshit. If I don't want my kids to see things, I WILL WATCH IT FIRST. Christ's sake you'd think TiVo was never invented.

Leaving that stoopid argument aside for a hot second, let me go thru this point by point for you...
First off, where did I ever say I was against sex or violence, of any kind?
Secondly, ABC (the network that carried the AMA's) is required to comply with the FCC's rules regarding television. What that means to you is that not only do I have the right to shield myself (and my children) from offensive content, but there's actually a government agency that will do it for me.
Finally, parenting is all about shielding your children (unfortunately)...that, and trying to help them make sense of a world where nothing makes sense.
11/24/09
So yes, first off, you are against exposing your kids to it. I, on the other hand, watched Single White Female at 7. My mom had a different attitude. Somehow I am not fucked up.
Second, the FCC's rules are bullshit and in no way constitutional. There are a number of court cases chipping away at their authority and I say good for them. The Puritans died long ago, and good riddance.
Third, if you continue to go through life with that attitude, you will do your children no favors. You are merely a mentor, teaching a tiny adult to become a responsible one. Shield all you like, but you're just delaying the inevitable.

Honestly, if that is the voice he has to offer, he should pack it in. I was embarrased for his vocal performance to the point where I barely noticed the visual crapness.

For someone who supposedly has a great voice, he was pitchy, and didn't sound so good. But good for him for belaboring the obvious.

The first step in watching/attending an event is knowing the talent involved. If it offends you, don't go or watch. Simple as that.
