I think it is VERY telling that all of my friends who are die hard republicans are over the top happy that palin has quit .... i'm thinking the party is stronger without her
so i have mixed feelings wishing she stayed if she divided the party
@ithabeleng metesunyane: The party is definitely stronger without her pretending to be a candidate for the 2012 presidential, but to withdraw as Governor of fucking Alaska means about as much significance to the party as the governor of Wyoming does..
Btw, pullin' for your Zebras to qualify for the 2010 WC .. they have a shot? :[]
So the summary of this press conference is that she is calling herself "politics as usual", which must be stopped so Alaska can continue to be the mecca of model democracy -- so if her stepping down is a good thing for Alaska, the supplementary property of geometry says she's clearly admitting she's bad for Alaska..
I posted these items in the other thread. Apologies if these points have already been raised earlier in this thread.
Speculation swirling that Palin resigned because of a looming scandal, and that a federal indictment is in the offing. This report comes from Max Blumenthal in the Daily Beast ([www.thedailybeast.com]):
"The suddenness of her announcement raises the question about whether Palin resigned to avert a major scandal. One logical place to start looking is the affair that has Alaska political circles buzzing: an alleged scandal centered around a building contractor, Spenard Building Supplies, with close ties to Palin and her husband, Todd.
Many political observers in Alaska are fixated on rumors that federal investigators have been seizing paperwork from SBS in recent months, searching for evidence that Palin and her husband Todd steered lucrative contracts to the well-connected company in exchange for gifts like the construction of their home on pristine Lake Lucille in 2002."
And here's more on the same story from The Brad Blog (see: [www.bradblog.com]):
"... all of this precedes what are said to be possible federal indictments against Palin, concerning an embezzlement scandal related to the building of Palin's house and the Wasilla Sports Complex built during her tenure as Mayor. Both structures, it is said, feature the 'same windows, same wood, same products.'"
@FiddlingWhileJimRomeBurns: She's been gone less than 24 hours. Bemoaning continuing coverage of her departure at this early juncture is the mark of the attention deficient and the fruit fly.
Everyone has overlooked the most likely explanation:
Palin had the choice between continuing her exhausting job while fighting off ethics inquiries OR collecting millions from speaking engagements, book deals and hosting television shows
its an obvious choice. the only surprise is that she didn't make it earlier
In her defense, once you have been to (or are given hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of clothes, accessories, and make-up) from Bergdorf, Neimans and Barneys you cannot envision a world where those places are not easily available/accessible. The thought of going back to "Out of the Closet" after wearing Valentino is a sacrifice too great to make and honestly it is too much to ask even for God and country . The good news is she is out of politics, the bad news is that she is either coming to NYC or LA. Go for LA Sarah, you can see Russia from there too-trust me on that.
Lost my previous comment, so here goes again even when I really should shutup and go to the beach.
Watching Andersen Cooper grill Meg Stapleton, Palin's press secy, last night was a trip. He kept asking her "so isn't being a leader not being a quitter, and what is Palin gonna do now?" and Stapleton had nothing but lame responses like "oh she has so many options and being a leader means making choices." Numnuts.
@doggotmyshoes: It was really great when Stapleton was going on about the whole "point guard" analogy etc. etc. and Cooper just looked at the camera blankly and said something like "I'm lost. I don't understand sports."
@doggotmyshoes: Saw the same interview, and enjoyed it very much. Best moment - when cooper asked how Palin could be a leader and a quitter at the same time, and Stapleton answered: "Is a point guard being a quitter when they dribble down the floor and then pass the ball?" Cooper, dumbfounded, answered: "I couldnt' really say. I don't know very much about basketball."
It's just exactly as she explained. As a lame duck Governor she'd just lie around the mansion all, drawing a salary to loaf because lame duck governors have absolutely no duties, occasionally wasting taxpayer money going on junkets to countries that aren't America. Darn it! That just isn't our Sarah!
@onebadclam: Because the ONLY reason to finish your commitment to the governor's office is to run for re-election. And if you're not going to, then what's the point of being governor?
Also, at this point, I would really love to see the media respect her wishes and just stop covering her. And, yes, I'm looking at you, People, US, In Touch, etc.
Okay, okay -- so let me get this straight: Sarah Palin sought out her own childrens' political guidance regarding her resignation as Governor of Alaska; and when one of them responded, "hell yeah (you should resign)," she said that, "sealed the deal," for her. And that giving any more of an explanation on the matter would contradict the wisdom bestowed upon her her, "parents' refrigerator magnet." Did anyone else watch the entire press briefing?
I'm sure this comment has been made, but I think this is really one instance where, if she'd said she needed to spend more time with her family, everyone would agree. Except probably her family.

The point guard has dropped the ball and her team has decided to forfeit the game before the 2nd period...
