The irony here is that NBC was replaying the Connors-Krickstein 1991 match the same weekend, due to the Nadal rain delay. In that match, Connors went apeshit on the line judge throughout the last few sets. But we applaud that sort of crazy because he was a loveable old crotchety white man. When a black woman does it we do not approve. Tis tennis.
@PontiusPirate: Different era, different standards. I don't think Connors or any other player would get away with those antics today. It's like watching Mad Men and going "see what they could get away with back then" and using that as an argument as to why sexual harrassment should be okay today. It shouldn't have been okay then, and it should not be okay now.
@Atilla the Bun: 1) Marat Safin at the U.S. Open last year - lashed into the judge with profanities after a foot fault and was only fined 2k USD and 2) Andy Roddick - take your pick of his examples at his swearing at judges without being fined (Australian Open, San Jose, etc.)

Nothing to see here; move along. I'm not going to watch tennis until they introduce checking.

You do recognize that this was one of those Euro kisses that straight men can give to each other, right?
Or is the tag a "joke"?
