The continuing saga of vaccinations on hufpo is so ridiculous that it astounds me. Not only that, but comments made refuting their retarded claims are DELETED. #conspiracies
And if they had received the vaccine now, there would be cries of favoritism from Becktard et al. "There are pregnant women and children under 5 who have not gotten the vaccine and yet the Obama girls who are not in any of the five high risk groups get one first! Foul play!"
And wait for it... once they get the vaccine the paranoid conspiracy idiots and the anti-vaccine whackjobs will join together to question whether they actually got the vaccine. "Certificate of Live Vaccine" anyone?
Personally though even as an ER doctor (who is swimming in H1N1 on a nightly basis) I won't get it until its my turn (ok, then I will be at the front of the line.) In this case its genuinely pregnant women and small children first. #conspiracies
@Mo MoDo: I like your interpretation. Surely there are other women out there who are pretending! And they should not get the vaccine first. #conspiracies
And I'll bet there's no fluoride in their toothpaste, either. Huffpo - our precious bodily fluids are being sapped and impurified. Get on it! #conspiracies
Instead of getting vaccinated, why not just implore all Americans to pray? Then, we record the percentage of people who still contract H1N1 from each religion. Whatever religion got swine flu the least is the One True Faith. #conspiracies
@morninggloria: But what if the swine flu is God's way of punishing God's followers for not being devout enough or for too much sinning? Then God's true followers may actually die in greater numbers. I think we should implore all Americans to wrap themselves in sackcloth and ashes. #conspiracies
@morninggloria: You can still shout it, but they will be in sackcloth and ashes. Because we all know Jews are God's chosen people so I'm perfectly content that I'll survive, compromised immune system and all.
And now I'm off to pray so I don't get smited for this comment. #conspiracies
I'm not saying the swine flu vaccination is a sinister government plot of some sort, probably aimed at keeping the population docile. I'm just saying I think there's a reason that no one I know in the military has gotten it yet. We're usually the first ones, as the government uses us as lab rats...
/obvious sarcasm (I have to spell it out for the Glenn Beck crowd)
@pollyannacowgirl: Seriously, it doesn't take that much work to immunize oneself from panic. There is a systemic failure to manufacture enough flu vaccine to cover every person who needs it, I'm in general good health, and I have no dependents, so I'm sticking to my rule of "no flu shot, thank you."
H1N1 is the best-understood subtype of Influenza A (which admittedly isn't saying much), and according to the CDC, it's responsible for a substantial portion of seasonal flu. That said, this strain has some interesting features: it is apparently somewhat more contagious than garden-variety H1N1, but except for a relative handful of cases, it's just going to make you feel like crap.
In the first four months since the WHO declared this strain of H1N1 to be a pandemic, 4,735 people have died from it, or roughly 40 people every day. There were just under 400,000 confirmed cases in mid-October. On a planet of 6.75 billion people, that's nothing.
@pollyannacowgirl: It’s not about you. It’s about you being a carrier and unintentionally infecting people who can’t get the vaccine (like infants younger than six months) or for whom the vaccine is not effective. Public health measures can’t work if the public doesn’t participate. #conspiracies
@dieresis: Your last point is quite true, but there's a world of difference between vaccinating against smallpox, polio, DPT, and MMR on one hand, and flu on the other.
I can't speak for pollyannacowgirl, but if I had an infant, or was likely to have contact with one shortly after catching flu, I would be in line for a shot. Since I don't fall into either category, and the only place I'm likely to get within range of an infant is the subway, I'm leaving the vaccine for those who actually need it.
But, I'm old-fashioned and don't believe babies should be hauled all over the place to begin with, and that goes double during a flu pandemic. (I could also use the "thin out the herd" argument, but that would make me seem needlessly heartless.) #conspiracies
Dear journalism: anecdotes are not science. Literally thousands of people are being vaccinated without side effects. You can only infer causality from repeatable, highly-correlated events. These stories are forestalling vaccinations and the people who write them have blood on their hands. #conspiracies
And if Malia and Sasha HAD received the vaccine there would have cries of favoritism and how could they get it while the kids with impaired immune systems need it. #conspiracies
@Trulymadlyme: Yes, thank you! How many Drudge sirens will we get when one of them gets her first period? Hopefully ZERO, because that shit is none of our business.#conspiracies
@flossy: Right? I swear, if there's some sort of massive announcement for when the girls get their first visit from Aunt Flo, I am quitting reading anything. Ever. Again. #conspiracies
So white dudes can get pity laid this winter by pitching it as ' the last time I ever get some'? Also, isn't anyone worried that an over 24 die-off will bring us into a Logan's Run scenario?

Make sure those genuinely pregnant small children are covered. And is that as opposed to Glee characters that are faking a pregnancy?
Classic PR no-win situation. The nutjobs have something to rant about no matter what. #conspiracies

I'm not getting the vaccine because I trust my immune sytem.
If H1N1 were as deadly or vicious as smallpox, I'd be the first in line. #conspiracies
