1. It's a shared document format.
2. Collaboration happens in real time, so that all participants in the "document" see changes as they happen.
3. Documents are versioned from creation to the most recent changes.
4. Apps can be embedded in the documents.
5. Documents can be shared with apps (known as "bots").
