*ahem* Hello … [tap tap] … is this thing on? [feedback squeal] Testing … testing …
Hi. How are y'all doing tonight?
So how about those pilots who flew by the airport today? You know, I don’t think they … Oh wait, sorry. Hang on:
Why Those Pilots Flew Past the Airport Today By MisterHippity
Ok, so … I don’t think they really fell asleep. I think they were just looking for a river to land on, so they could get some of hot hero-groupie action, like Captain Sully! You know what I mean?
Or maybe they were just fucking the flight attendants. Hey … why do you think they call it the cockpit, anyway?
Actually, though … I think they really probably just fell asleep.
So anyway … I really appreciate the opportunity to do this. You guys have been a great audience.
If anyone’s interested, I’m available every night because I’m an insomniac and I don’t have a day job. So just let me know. #gabrielsnyder
Cook is right. Variety is a no-sale in flyover country, and it might actually do better behind a pay wall. But dailies such as the LATimes, Chicago Trib, or the SF Comicle are fooling themselves if they think a pay wall will save them. The problem those folks fail to see is that readers aren't willing to pay to see the same rehashed wire service crap over and over, but the newsrooms have been gutted repeatedly over the last 30 years, and they now have nobody left to help them go "hyperlocal," no matter what Phil Bronstein says.
For example: my observations indicate the Comicle has less than a dozen people (including columnists) to cover SF itself from one day to the next. The results speak for themselves: trite stories about bums in the park and the Tenderloin, packaged with whatever Gadabout Hairsome's press people put in that day's release. In short, it's nothing to pay for.
I'm a Brit, but I bloody loved it, and I've never been a massive Tarantino fan (Jackie Brown aside). Shame about it shoring up Weinstein, but do go and see! It's unique.
Uh, uh... didn't Denby gush over Funny People and that horrible Nazi killer movie with Liev Schreiber? 'nuff said. As for Edelstein, "an ungainly pastische" doesn't sound like an unvarnished rave. I think I need to see this before coming to any conclusion.
@Spirit Fingers: From what I've seen of the Inglourious Basterds trailers, I think Brad was channeling Dale Dye's portrayal of Colonel Sink in Band Of Brothers . . .
I've seen the trailer so many times now that I find it annoying, especially Brad Pitt's southern accent "My name is lieutenant Aldo Ray, and I need me eight soldiers"
@bluebears: I think it got fairly positive, if slightly mixed reviews. Volume 2 definitely received more acclaim, which makes sense because I think a lot of people weren't expecting that depth (yes, depth) after Volume 1. I heard Ebert say at UC Boulder that the two combined created one of the best cinematic experiences of the past 10 years.
