As for his "crimes," I sort of a agree, although the way I'd put it is that Obama is indeed neglecting taping together and wiping the shit off of the Constitution so thoroughly desecrated by the Dick Cheney administration. But I remain hopeful that he will address that regime's crimes fully. If he doesn't, I have no problem supporting another candidate. #barackobama

I just wanted to demonstrate in the most unambiguous way possible how the USA PATRIOT Act and other Acts of Congress passed during the previous administration enable the President to abuse power in a perfectly legal way. I'll be sending Congress legislation tomorrow morning to fix all of this, but in the meantime, the people I had put on the no-fly list will stay there, kind of as an incentive for action." #barackobama

And the real story there, which the Times covered in greater depth a couple days ago, is not just that he ended production of one weapon or another, but that he stopped production of a slew of them, and in the process has now reshaped the entire war planning strategy of this country, and put the military industrial complex on notice that they're not in control anymore. Even Bush wielded little power in that area when he tried, despite these people supposedly being his friends.

He's not off the hook yet. Gays in the military is a bug up my craw because it is about as simple and straightforward a progressive change there is. There aren't any new rules to make other than, "okay, now we won't kick you out" just to signal that he's at least going in the right direction. We can deal with the marriage and benefits question later. And what else? There isn't anything else to figure out on that issue. Why do we need to kick this down the road??
And that whole torture/FISA/Guantanamo/letting-Bush-off-the-hook stuff is no small potatoes, not only because it's just wrong and a total betrayal of his campaign promises, but also because REPUBLICANS/CONSERVATIVES/LIBERTARIANS/WHOEVER will use that shit against him to impeach him later. We know that "hypocrisy" is not a word that exists in the conservative dictionary, and they will be more than willing to take Obama down on the very same shit they cheered Bush on.

These things aren't as simple as they seem. Changing military legislation would requite votes from Congress, which is currently embroiled in healthcare reform. Regardless of his popularity rating, Obama's not going to push both healthcare reform AND gay rights through congress at the same time, or both will fail and we'll end up with nothing. As for signing an executive order to stop enforcement of DADT, doing so will cost him potential support for healthcare reform both in Congress and amongst the general public; support for gay rights is not nearly as high as support for, say, the public option.
As for Bush, that will be even more controversial and complicated than gay rights; we would have months and months of hearings and a lot of dirty laundry will be aired. Needless to say, this is also something that would hamper the healthcare issue.
Now, I know he promised us these things, and I wish they would happen sooner rather than later, but I will wait four years before I decide whether Obama's reneged on his promises. While I think denying homosexuals their civil rights is horrible, I will focus more on fixing the problem locally, both in my city and my state, and hopefully that will help build support for when we are able to address the matter nationally.
I suggest those who support the 14th amendment focus on doing the same in their communities. #barackobama

I doubt Obama's ending DADT by executive order would have much ripple effect. I do suspect that Obama has other reasons for wanting DADT to go through Congress rather than be done by executive order, I just wish he would say what those reasons were. #barackobama

2. Children do not need expanded health insurance because they want a CHOICE and not the government meddling in their chicken pox with their death panels and such, and besides we already have the BEST healthcare system in the world.

Lindsay's standing in front of a huge American flag and the announcer is saying "Lindsay Graham is fighting for you against the liberals who are in the pocket of Big Oil by backing sustainable energy, because liberals love foreign oil, big corporations and raping your children." I'm making the last part up, but the part where Lindsay heroically fights against you commie hippies who love Iranian oil is totally true. Take that hippies! I'd already forgotten that the communist, Marxist, muslim Obama had used "drill, baby, drill" as his rallying cry to get the democratic rubes riled up before the election.
